Is it true that cancelled award ticket does not mean refund of taxes?
That's what LH Miles and More CS are telling me. What is the policy of other airlines?
I find it hard to believe as a cancelation of revenie tickets causes taxes to be refunded as well.

LH claims that taxes have been already paid to the goverment and that there is no way LH can get it back. What will you recommend to do?
P.S. BTW, I checked their award travel conditins - not a word aboyt the fact that award travel tickets do not have their taxes refunded

Also, I just found out on top of that they collected wrong taxes - levied US departure tax even though whole itin is within Europe. And I have been unable to explain them that -only answer is "Computer does the taxes"
What US federal agency is in charge of foreigh airlines operations in US? I guess FAA cannot do anything as LH is not a US carrier.

My suggestion, is to post your question in the BA and AF and other foreign carriers on this board to see what their FF say about this. I would think that they might know of such rules since they are all part of the EU.
They could probably tell you whether or not that excuse by LH is bull.

I've been refunded even when it was only a few $ for a single segment change. I'd call LH back and if I received no satisfaction I'd dispute the charge (or the proper portion of it) on my credit card.

Joh and I have made and cancelled so many award tickets this year (inc LH First) we'd be in Bankrupcy Court if they kept the taxes.

I have called second time and got another rep.
the refuse to hand me a supervisor - they they are busy. Promissed that the supervisor will call me back - never did.
Should I try to find their corporate contact?

If it is within 60 days and you have any written proof dispute it with your credit card company.
If it is not within 60 days usually you can still write a letter and get it resolved .
Call your credit Card provider and speak to a supervisor if it is out of 60 days for the rules.
Call consumer relations for your carrier or write for further verification.
If it is policy which I can not believe it is ask for it in writing.
The fact they never advised you of such a policy to begin with is pretty evident they have very little reason to withhold your funds in the first price.

As far as the taxes already being remitted to the government, that is hogwash.
They are constantly collecting taxes for remittance and net any refunds against those collections.
