Spring Break in Arizona?

My family is looking for a new place for a Spring Break trip (the place we usually go in Florida is being restored after the hurricanes, unfortunately). We're thinking something in Arizona might be a nice change of pace.

We usually get a 2 bedroom condo type thing for a week. Pool is necessary as well as a good number of restaurants and such in the area. Any suggestions on places I should look at?

Spring in Phoenix is nice. Lots of great restaurants.

Sedona has great weather. Lousy restaurants.

May I ask what the 'family' consists of?

The college crowd will be swarming in Lake Havasu City along the Arizona California border.

In Phoenix, baseball spring training abounds.

Although not condo's per se - the following resorts each have 'casita' type rooms that might fit the bill:

The Boulders is a nice resort, but somewhat secluded from Phoenix proper.

Both the Pointe Hilton resorts (Squaw Peak and Tapatio) are also very nice - See the Hilton HHonors thread.

Day trips to Sedona, or an overnight towards the Grand Canyon would also be good.

I'll leave the lodging to others; I stay with family when in AZ.
AZ will be a nice change from FL, unless you must have ocean.

If you decide on Phoenix area, try the Mining Camp Restaurant in Apache Junction @ foot of Superstition Mountains around where the Lost Dutchman's Mine is suppose to be located.

The Salt River is great for sking, boarding, tubing, etc. Rent a boat & enjoy the ride until you find the spot to picnic & party.

The Casa Grande Ruins, the nation's first archeological preserve, is an hour away in Coolidge, AZ. Not a lot to see, but interesting for historical value. Photos @ link may be all you need to say you've seen it & who wants historical when on spring break??

Flagstaff, Arizona is a good gateway, If you plan to see national parks in the Grand Circle. I did it last month and it was awesome. You can also spend a couple of days in Phoenix at the beginning or end of the trip.

The Westin Kierland has time-share villas just down the road from the main hotel. They come in 1 or 2 BR combinations and are very nicely appointed. The complex is in a very nice location in Scottsdale, and I am quite sure they rent out the units to non time-share owners. Most feedback has been very positive about this hotel.

You might want to do a search in the Starwood forum to get some additional opinions about the property.
