Which is the best for relaxation
I am hoping that someone with knowledge of Arizona could help me out with this one: Looking for a "get-away from it all" 5 day break, travelling alone, want to hang by the pool, take in some spa treatments and not be overwhelmed by crowds or children. Here are the choices: (1) Hyatt Regency Scottsdale; (2) The Phoenician. Any and all suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've only driven past the two, but I have the sense that the Phoenician will offer more solitude, peace & quiet, as it is set off a bit from the main drag. That said, it is still close enough to everything that you're not handicapped by location. It also has a very good reputation locally for good service.
The Hyatt seems a little more "chain", the Phoenician "resort".

Sounds to mee like the Phoenician would suit you better, although Hyatt Gainey Ranch is also a fine property. Take a look at the Starwood and Hyatt boards, there are a number of reviews for each property.

Ditto the Sedona suggestion. Unbelieveable scenery, cooler than Phoenix because its a bit higher, and probably more adult oriented in many hotels, though I'm sure children are welcomed at all.
If you do get there--say hello to Snoopy Mountain for me.

My first choice would be Enchantment. It is located about 5 miles outside of town in Boynton Canyon at the base of some spectacular red rock cliffs. The "true" flavor of Sedona in an upscale setting - spa, tennis courts, swimming pool, and an excellent restaurant.
Second choice would be L'Auberge de Sedona located a few miles north of in Oak Creek Canyon. This is very highly rated, with a strong French influence, especially in the higher rated restaurant. I have not stayed here, but some people I know have felt it was a little snooty.

A big thank you to all. Believe it or not, I looked into all the suggestions and The Phoenician comes out WAY ahead with the best rates (and the nicest reservations clerk!). Now the challenge is getting a decent priced flight with no stops. Yikes!! Who would have thought JFK/LGA to PHX would be so expensive!!!!
Thanks again!

If you can get yourself to an airport that Southwest serves, they have just announced some very good rates to and from PHX.
Enjoy the Phoenician! While you're that close, be sure to check out Taliesin West on the edge of Scottsdale!

I have taken the advice of both of you and achieved the following: (1) a delighted Dad since I will stay in Long Island with him prior to the trip West and immediately following it; (2) a fairly decent price to Phoenix (I could have gotten to London cheaper, but at least I will get to sample the delights of Baltimore Airport on the way to Phoenix!!); (3) am now a proud new member of the Southwest Frequent Flyer program. Thanks again to everyone and bring on the relaxation!!!!!
