Quote: Quick question about the Canberra virgin lounge - there is a fairly discrete door off the entry to the main lounge - I am wondering if its a VIP only lounge or something? it seems to have a similar card access point to the main lounge.
That would be the entry to "The Club" - VA's worst kept secret. It's VA's version of QF's Chairman's Lounge - entry by invitation only.

am I right in thinking that the VA lounge is in the domestic terminal?

I'm on SYD - LAX in J tomorow and have just got round to checking what lounges are available. I've got Oneworld Emerald, Virgin UK Gold and Emirates Gold but I don't thtink any of those will work with this ticket.

At SYD, VA send their LAX bound J PAX to the AirNZ lounge.

Ask about it on check in - perhaps the'll just tell you to go there or maybe they'll give you a lounge pass ...

You will get access to the Air New Zealand lounge by virtue of J class travel.

Question for you all.

Traveling LAX-BNE-MEL in Y. I'm also Star Gold and also have United Club membership. Per Virgin Australia's website, they use Star Alliance Lounge at Tom Bradley.

Can I access this Star Alliance lounge if I'm traveling in Y on Virgin Australia?

Thank you

I would suggest not. *A rules for status based lounge access require travel on *A Metal.

Definitely not.

Virgin pay the operators of the lounge for access for their own Gold and Platinum frequent flyers and for their own Business Class passengers.

Your United Club membership and Star Gold status would get you admission, but only if you had a boarding pass for an onward flight on a Star Alliance carrier. But even members of Virgin's own "The Lounge" program do not have access to the Star Alliance lounge at LAX unless they hold a Business Class boarding pass.

When using VA status to access lounges when flying with partner airlines, do those flights have to be booked with a VA codeshare?

Nope, there's no requirement for you to be booked under the VA codeshare

Gold flying AUK - Apia on VA
I heard I cannot use Air NZ lounge at AUK Intl. Is this so and if so why is this the case?

Because Apia is on a "Pacific Island" and routes with travel to/from "Pacific Islands" are excluded from the VA/NZ Joint Venture and hence, it's related benefits.
