Spending Flying Club Miles on AF-KLM

Hold a modest number of Flying Club miles and so looking at spending them with KLM on a trip to Europe.
I understand that FB operates under Zones - does this marry up to the way the VS system operates? For example a trip LHR-AMS-BOD = 4000 miles whereas LHR-AMS-NCE = 7500 miles.. this is despite France being in Zone 1? Any advice appreciated or if anyone could offer any tips on the furthest you can travel ex LON within Zone 1!!
