Why are they waiting so long? to perfect the system? I would prefer a 1/2 launched system with just the basics--including some redeeming--rather than what is avaible now. Maybe they are waiting for the next city opening or anouncement. I said that for SEA and SAN too, right?

I wish I knew the details so I could decide between UA and VX!

I noticed today that they have beefed up the information in the eleVAte section of the website (including specifying the program's terms and conditions), although there isn't any new information on redemption. Still, I wonder if this means full details are coming soon.

This appears to be new (or I never noticed it before):

Point Expiration Policy
Your points are easy to redeem but they do expire. You will have up to 18 months to use them after they post to your account and they expire on the last day of the month. There's plenty of time to use them, as they do not begin to expire until 2010, 18 months after the start of Reward redemption.
Interesting. It's a frequent flyer program "unlike any other" except that it's pretty much the same as Southwest with a shorter expiration period. Not promising.

It's rather late to be "early" in 2008.

There's a bunch of little changes to the eleVAte section as they prepare to release more info on the program. You now see your eleVAte number when you sign in, and the My Account page now has a bit more information/options on it.

In addition to beefing up the terms & conditions page, there's a Member Guide link at the bottom of the My Account page, which gives no! new! details! at all. The Member Guide is a template, at least, for more info coming.

The quote above pretty much states that the 18 month expiration is not for account inactivity but that points expire 18 months after being EARNED. That is going to make this a loyalty program only for their most frequent customers, which may be their intent. But it won't work for me, as even an expanded VX has too limited a route structure to be my regular domestic carrier.

And not a revenue generator, I'm guessing.

Seriously, why would I sign up for a VX-branded credit card, where the points expire in 18 months anyway?

Because they have a cool looking shape (gimmick). Just kidding... I wouldn't bother either.

I have a Virgin Credit Card from AU and the rate is very competitive. I don't use it to earn points, but I could earn Velocity points if I was still in Oz. This may be worthwhile when V Australia starts flying and I have to make trips back home. Even more so if the Virgin brands join forces.

Question

If the miles/points expire 18 months after being earned, do they plan to "start the clock" on our miles when they finally offer awards, or do the 18 months start from flights that we may already have taken?

Am I missing something on the website?
Are there any awards listed yet?
I don't get it.....
How can there be an expiration date if there are no awards to 'buy' yet??

I remember reading somewhere on the VX website that points will not begin to expire until early 2010, 18 months after rewards are first available for redemption.

Just want to add that I am very surprised we still do not have more details about eleVAte, given that it is already June.
