Bill Frieder (former b-ball coach at Michigan and ASU) was on my SAN - PHX flight last week. He stood out a bit. While waiting for the plane he kept pacing and doing mini laps around the gate while playing w/ his Blackberry.
F was full w/ a decent wait list. There ended up being a no show, but despite her promises, the GA never bothered to issue an upgraded BP to the next person on the upgrade list. Meanwhile, after general boarding, Bill has been wandering up from row 6 in coach a couple times to peek his head around the corner to see if 3A has been taken. The moment the door closed he jumped out of his seat and self helped himself to 3A. He left his flying companion (wife?) in coach.

Kenny Rogers, getting on the MAN-PHL flight on October 30th with the flight crew. Long straggly grey hair, with a too small pilot's cap on his head. Weird. If you didn't know who he was, you might have thought twice about getting on a plane supposedly being flown by someone looking like that.

Take it to OMNI, I don't want to see garbage like this in here where it will make me hurl.
By the way, I sure loved Margaret Thatcher. I was lucky enough to meet her briefly in '91 at a function in London. I am looking forward to a David Cameron led Britain in the near future.

Her policies led to working class people experiencing unnecessary poverty, and well-to-do middle class people losing their homes due to a crash in equity. A dreadful woman we are better off without. I was at university the day she resigned and we had Champagne in our politics lecture, proffering a toast to the 'Death of Thatcherism!'
Mr Blair is at least concerned with the general well-being of people here, despite his disastrous support of the Iraq war, for which he will soon stand down as PM in favour of Gordon Brown, and about time too. The British people do not support his stupid war. Long live socialism. Most people here are thoroughly ashamed about Blair's blind support of the pointless war in Iraq, and also about his weakness in following Bush into this unnecessary conflict.
Furthermore, Cameron is a product of the elitist education system; everything he says is hollow and meaningless.
Can we get back to talking about airlines now please? I've said my piece on this issue:rolleyes

Bill Bergey
While I don't really care for the Eagles (no offense meant to the vast number of fans that would be inherently reading this post), I did have the occasion to meet Bill Bergey, one of their former linebackers on a PHL-PDX flight last month. I hadn’t a clue who he was until he started talking to me, and I noticed the Superbowl XV ring. The flight was cancelled on account of equipment failure, and I met him again in the lounge the next night before departure, and sat next to him again on our re-scheduled flight the next night.
He took pity to my nicotine fit, and supplied me with chewing tobacco on multiple occasions on the flight out, even though I made it clear I’m a dedicated NE fan… He actually appreciated my frankness, and we had a great time on the way out.
Truly a genuine fella…

He was in charge!
Tuesday, 12/5, Gen. Alexander Haig in LAS USAir Club on his way back East. Walked around the club and sat by himself for quite awhile (but used a wheelchair to go to the gate.)

My Sightings
Several years ago, I saw Colin Powell outside DCA waiting for a ride. SOmeone drove up to him and the passenger drove up to him and said hello and asked for his autograph which he politely declined. I personally have never understood the allure of autographs unless you are a super-obsessed fan or a true collector.
I also sat next to Helen Thomas of the White House Press Corps on a LGA-DCA shuttle. We spoke very briefly and she drank scotch on the rocks. She was very nice, not wanting to invade her privacy I went back to my book. I think she jkind of appreciated not having to talk to a stranger.

LAX-PHL red eye
We had Paula Abdul and two members of The Boyz to Men Group on the same flight. She was the last one on with her Assistant.
We had seats apart, so I asked the gentleman(did not know he was a Boyz to Men member) to switch and he did from his window seat. Turned out he was a member of the Boyz to Men and worked great for him, as he got to talk with Paula the whole flight in the gallery. Paula gave him a big hug as she came in. I said to myself I made this celeb move from the quiet window seat for his privacy. I saw a man behind him give him a business card and know he had to be some type of celebrity. I said to him sorry for moving him, but he said that's OK.
Pretty loud flight as we were in 2DF and they had 1AC and 2AC.

Burt Young - Rocky
12:40 p.m. LAX - PHL flight yesterday. Last person to board FC was none other than Burt Young, fine character actor of dozens of films, including "Rocky" and my personal favorite, "Convoy."
Very nice guy and was chatting with other flyers while waiting for our luggage. He was in LA at the "Rocky Balboa" premiere and was flying to PHL for the Philly premiere.
