Shouldn't that have been a flag?
Has anyone traveled overseas "empty" and planned to buy what you need "over there"?

As for the woman, I smell false flag. First you have the "shoe bomber", and we have to take off our shoes. Then we have the "underwear bomber" just as the NOS are rolling out, and there's documented evidence that not only was he allowed on the plane by the US, he was escorted by a US official.
Now, mere weeks after TSA releases a statement expressing concern about surgically-implanted devices, this happens?

As for buying what I need "over there": I budget 1.34 euros for the wash-by-hand soap at the local Franprix. As it says on the box, you don't even need to scrub. Radiators do the rest.
All this said, as I once posted on the MAD security thread, I have been questioned at length based on suspicion of flying as an American with insufficient luggage and souvenirs.

If she had no luggage of any kind, then yeah, probably would be a flag, but I doubt there's much in the way of systems set up to track that. Certainly none that are apparent to me.

All the time. It's much easier than you'd think.

Not "empty", as you put it, but with only hand baggage every time.

I did two weeks travelling the US west coast and three weeks around SE Asia (both from London) last year with just my trusty 55x45x25 rucksack, and it was great. However, without fail, I ALWAYS get questioned before boarding to the US as to why I don't have checked luggage, and three times now I've been stopped at customs upon arrival in the US (usually ORD) with the official finding it hard to believe I could be spending two weeks in the US without a suitcase.
I have also had the third degree in MAD prior to boarding the US flight to PHL, with various questions as to why I don't have luggage, why I'm visiting the Caribbean and then coming back etc.
It's a pain but what can you do?!

Beach vacations, I always buy t-shirts, flipflops, suncream etc. "over there". In my experience, there are very few beaches in the world where there isn't a touristy shop or market that sells 5 t-shirts for $20 or whatever. I give or throw them away before I leave.

No charges against the woman who caused the diversion.
It now seems like it was all just a "misunderstanding" -- nothing to do with bombs or anything.
Did no one speak French on the flight? Or is it just hard to understand a (possibly) crazy person?
