UAL Visa - It Pays!! to "Just Ask"

I just received my UAL Visa card that provides 1 mile for every $1 spent, but the offer I had signed up under provided for a 5000 mile bonus after the 1st purchase with the card...So far, So good. However, with the welcome packet came a little typed note that said: "We're sorry but the promotion you signed up under is no longer available....please see the new rules for the current promotion".....Guess what: now no signing bonus at all. So while calling Visa to activate the card I inquired what happened to the offer for 5K miles, and they said..."hold on a minute", and then came back on and promptly gave me the old promo...So it pays to just ask,,and in this case it pays 5000 miles. Best Wishes.

As Ive posted elsewhere, there seem to be at least 3 promos out there for the UAL Visa Card from FirstUSA. I know of 5K, 7.5K and 10K mileage bonuses. The targeted mailer I got offered me 10K, I already have the card but still no bonus.....

Someone from UAL called and offer me a 10K bonus with no annual fee for 6 months.

I accepted

I signed up for said card a few years ago and a 10k promised bonus. I think only 5k showed up and I lost track of staying on top of them for the rest.... my advise, ... monitor that promise closely.

My experience with First USA is quite negative. Something not quite right about the way they make promises that they do not consistently keep. First USA blames some outside marketing agency for the errors. See for some related info http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/011674.html

I am getting an Amtrak card.

I had the same problem, bseller. I got that little promotion expired flyer in with my card too, so I called them and they said that they would "investigate" and send me a letter explaining what was going on. I got a letter that said that the miles had already posted to my account. Well, they haven't posted to my account. When I call them, they say there's nothing that they can do.

I'm going to cancel the card. Not only did I not get the mileage bonus, but they don't appear to be sending my statements out on time, as they arrive just a couple of days before they are due. I've had the Citibank AAdvantage card for 5 years now, and have never had a problem.

I suggest that you also write a letter to BankOne at the Executive or VP level. Look up his or her name in a recent 10K or DEF 14A SEC filing. I'm not promising that you will get a response, but this is the way I would try to resolve an issue.

Guyin: I also responded positively to a telephone solicitation with a 10K/no fee promise. See above and the link there for the details. Be careful but good luck!
