I just received my UAL Visa card that provides 1 mile for every $1 spent, but the offer I had signed up under provided for a 5000 mile bonus after the 1st purchase with the card...So far, So good. However, with the welcome packet came a little typed note that said: "We're sorry but the promotion you signed up under is no longer available....please see the new rules for the current promotion".....Guess what: now no signing bonus at all. So while calling Visa to activate the card I inquired what happened to the offer for 5K miles, and they said..."hold on a minute", and then came back on and promptly gave me the old promo...So it pays to just ask,,and in this case it pays 5000 miles.
