Odds of E+ "upgrade" refund for 3P

Good morning all! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here.

Earlier this year, we booked a reservation for my wife and kids for ORD-MCO. At the time, it wasn't clear if I would get enough miles to renew her 3P membership, so we paid for an E+ upgrade (she is meeting me down there).

Since then, I got her back to 3P. What are the odds that I can get UA to refund that upgrade?

I talked to the 1P service desk, and she noted I needed to call the "Economy Plus Service Desk". What am I getting myself into?

Welcome to FT, rflor

Chance of a E+ buy-up refund? Zero

T&Cs
Economy Plus purchase is nonrefundable unless Economy Plus is not available for the flights on receipt.

I believe you have five days (or less) from the date of purchase of the E+ package to request a refund.

I wouldn't quite put it at zero.....

While it is true the buy-ups are non-refundable.... if due to irrops you don't get a E+ seat (or you are moved to another carrier). You can request a refund.

I'm not sure how much you paid but isn't a phone call worth it?
