I wonder if I can book a multi-city flight with mileages? anyone has such an experience? any additional charge ? will UA think I am booking 2 round-trip flights?
If you are going to book multi-city you will need to call the awards desk. If you are willing to share with us your plans we might be able to tell you if it's allowed.
I'm not too sure what your status is with United, but you might want to take note of the award ticketing fees. If you're a 1K or UGS member you are exempt from the fees.

I don't believe that would be allowed. You're allowed to book an open jaw itinerary with a domestic award. Open jaw for this purpose means that the leg of the triangle that isn't actually traveled must be shorter than the other two legs. In your example, either SFO-ORD or LAX-ORD would form Leg 1, and ORD-IAH would form Leg 2. But Leg 3 is longer than Leg 2; Leg 2 is 926 miles according to Webflyer MileMarker, whereas Leg 3 is either 1630 (IAH-SFO) or 1370 (IAH-LAX) miles. Thus this would be deemed a stopover, which I think isn't allowed for a United domestic award.
Since stopovers are only allowed for awards between two Regions, the only way you could get away with this would be to book LAX/SFO-ORD as your outbound with ORD-IAH-LAX/SFO on the return (if they'll allow this routing) and just get off the plane at IAH. Checked baggage would be your greatest enemy unless they let you book a clever overnight connection where you could claim your bags at IAH.
7303 ORD-IAH and 1229/423 IAH-DEN-SFO would give you about a 3 hour "layover" in IAH. Since you have a meeting in Houston, you'll need the materials in your checked bag during your layover, so have the TA "stop" the bag at IAH when you check in at ORD. Or, carry-on
I used flights from today's schedule, but the idea should work most any time...
If not 1K, you'll pay a phone ticketing fee if you use an agent. No biggie. Also, close-in fee, if within those parameters. I believe my scenario can be booked online, so no phone fees.
Good luck and welcome to FT!

Thx so much. You guys have been very helpful. I guess i wont have any checked baggages. If I didnt get it wrong, I can leave in Houston without taking the the 2nd (connecting) flight? any no penalty for no show?

I thought you were allowed one stopover to Hawaii and Caribbean from the continental U.S. (which are technically in region 1).Originally Posted by mahasamatman

If you want to be nice, once arriving in IAH, inform UA that you won't be continuing so they can offload you and free up your seat. No penalties...
