Can i use my miles to upgrade my mother's ticket? I checked that that the fare is upgradeable, but not sure about upgrading her ticket, when i will not be flying with her.

Yes, you can. You need to have her PNR, call MP and do the transaction over the phone. I you have the same last name, you probably will not be required to go the airport and sign a bluey; otherwise, you most likely will.

Yep, I did this for my parents (same last name) several years ago -- no bluey. It all worked out great except that my dad spoiled the surprise by reconfirming their flights a couple days in advance. Oh, well, they enjoyed it, and my mom was very surprised at their seating assignments when they got on board!

i can attest to this that you don't need to sign the blue if the last name is the same as it worked w/goalie mom 'n dad this past february (and it was a surprise for them as after they checked-in on-line, i got a phone call saying "what did you do?" )
