Is anyone else having a problem accessing the seat availability site function on UA?
I've been trying to find seat availability on my ord-pek flight and its getting increasingly more crowded (only 6 seats in B and 9 in Y) when there was a lot more.
For the last few days I've been trying to check up on it, and I get onto the page but there is no information...

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly...
What I got is that you try to do a dummy booking for your flight to look at the seat map when you get to that part, no seat map is offered.
If that's the case, I would venture to say that it probably in an oversell situation (the Y9 B6 availability also points to this direction) with no more seats left to be assigned (at least to pax with your status level). UA is willing to oversell most flights--particularly with refundable Y & B fares, as these are often no shows, and if they do show up, there are always misconnects, op-ups, VBDs and IDBs (in that order) to accomodate everyone and get the flight out.

As recent as a few days back, I would get the booking class and then the number of seats left. There is some website (popular here on FT) which lets you check this without having to make a "dummy" booking.
Anyhow, I've been trying to access this page for the last few days and my flight shows up, but there is no seat information whatsoever. No booking classes or numbers. It just says the flight number and then there is an option to "book flight" or something like that....

Sorry, I inferred from your post that you were talking about ual.com.
Perhaps if you are less circumspect and make it clear what tool you are talking about someone may be able to give you some helpful hints.

To get seats not yet reserved info on united.com, you have to go through the drill of a dummy booking.
However, it used to be easier to get just fare bucket info on the website. In the past few days, I've noted that it's more difficult to get the fare bucket availability info to show consistently on united.com. There is an alternate site that draws fare bucket info from Apollo but as the following thread shows, it's been having trouble lately in displaying the correct info.

United.com's data displays seemingly correct fare bucket info, if you can get it to display, but it is clunky like a lot of fare/flight info on the United site.
