Have not seen any recent posts about this topic, so seeking an update...

Since it's now served by a 777 and frequented by revenue C passengers, UA800/801 SIN-NRT-SIN is likely to be one of the most difficult Y to C upgrades to score in the system. Can any 1Ks and 1Ps share results of recent efforts to upgrade on this flight--particularly on weekend flights?

I'm taking SIN-NRT on a Friday in a month, and less than 10 revenue seats appear available.

I'm a PremEx, and I tried to upgrade SIN-NRT on a Sunday in February without success. There were many people on the waitlist, and there were only a few that got the upgrade (all 1K's I'm sure). They op-upgraded a few people from C to F also.

I got lucky on my upgrade from SIN-NRT last month. Last weekend of March...on a Saturday night.

I was on the waitlist since booking in Jan. I didn't get the upgrade until we were boarding at the gate. I believe I was one of only a few to get the upgrade. I'm a 1K and was on a Q fare. I got the last seat and was in 15D.

I was unable to upgrade NRT-SIN on 4/13, but was successful for SIN-NRT on Sunday 4/25. I put myself on the waitlist for both flights on 4/3. I'm 1K and I was using SWUs to upgrade a Q fare.

Upgrades will become easier once UA changes SIN-NRT to a 747 in June.

My last trip there was in late March. The SIN-NRT segment was confirmable at the time of booking in January. The NRT-SIN segment cleared 3 days out.
I dont recall if it was a V or W fare, I know it wasn't a Q.

My overall success rate on this segment has been about 90%+, about half clearing 3-5 days out and the remainder at the airport.

But...if you are still waitlisted on departure day, chances are pretty tough even for 1K's

i have been pretty lucky..
So for, I have been upgraded every time between NRT and SIN at the time of reservation. The funny thing is that I was coming from Chicago and was waitlisted on all flights between Chicago and Tokyo - where the success rate should be much higher.

SIN-NRT is notorious for upgrades clearing 24hours out or at the gate.

Yield Management works in mysterious ways...
My V->NC upgrade for SIN-NRT inexplicably cleared one month in advance. I'm delighted at the outcome, but it doesn't make any sense: last Thursday 6 revenue C seats appeared available; now the flight shows only 3.
