Honolulu-Chicago service? What to expect?
I am happy United is offering the Honolulu-Chicago route starting this June. I am planing to fly this route in June. Does anyone know what to expect in Coach and First? The only thing I know is the HNL based FAs maybe used depending on the numbers available but there would be ORD based FAs also used and there would be meals provided in coach and first.

This is what is posted on the AFA website regarding that flight. "No decisions have been made as to which domicile the new flying such as ORD-HNL or DEN-CUN will be assigned."

As of now HNL-ORD will be entirely staffed by ORD based FAs.

If service is the same as AA--then expect bev/hot lunch service on ORD late a.m. departure in Y, and then "snack" 1.5 hours out. AA snack was nothing more than bag of pretzels, cheese dip and a pack of crackers along with a chocolate mint.
Returning out of HNL with late afternoon/early eve. dept--bev/hot dinner service and then "snack" 1.5 hours out of ORD. In AA case "snack" is a stretching a bit. As the snack on the return was orange juice.

Hmmm It's flight number 1. It's longer then an Atlantic crossing but in a two class plane, I wonder what it would take to get a 744 on ORD-HNL?

UA has a scheduled time of 7:50 from HNL-ORD and 8:30 ORD-HNL. The actual time of course depends on the prevailing winds during flight. Most flights HNL-ORD take about 7:30 in the air and at least 8 hours ORD-HNL. I've been on quite a few flights with strong headwinds which lasted at least 8:30 ORD-HNL.

I can tell you about the service on UA44 HNL-DEN in F. It was a 777 2-class the night I flew and was designated "SS" instead of "DS" like UA2 HNL-ORD. It's only listed as 10 minutes shorter, though (6:40 vs. 6:50) but it doesn't leave until 10:30 p.m. so no dinner.
After takeoff we had a full drink service (Mai Tais were avilable
), followed by a snack which was a nice fruit/cheese/vegetable plate (melon, pineapple, grapes, cheddar, swiss, brie, carrots, celery), with warm rolls/butter and a warm chocolate-chip cookie. A surprising number of passengers stayed awake. Well maybe not so surprising given the abysmal seat pitch and recline on the 2-class 777 in F, but that's another story.
The breakfast snack was another fruit plate with pineapple, orange slices, kiwi and strawberry and bear claw/butter or bagels/cream cheese. Guava juice was available plus the usual orange/grapefruit/tomato.
The crew was Denver-based. We arrived early and the flight was less than 6 hours in duration. Avoiding the 5 a.m. LAX/SFO zombie walk was priceless!
