LOL, and asking for compensation when you (hopefully not) misconnect, and that extra 4 hours turns into an extra 15 hours. (Not wishing this on OP, just redefining what FT is also all about.)

Only on FT would you read something like this.

No way I'd chance it on OZ unless I needed the miles.
I am curious about the recommendation for the specific SEA-->NRT leg on UA.

I have a trip next month with this segment...why the recommendation? Something I should be looking forward to?

Same here. What's so special about SEA-->NRT?

its being recommended because of no risk of misconnect.

And it doesn't involve an extra 4 hrs and 50 minutes of travel time.

In December, 77Qs operated 50% of the SEA-NRT flights.

OK I get it now.
On first reading, it seemed like there was something unique about this particular UA leg.

FWIW, I fly ex-west coast to NRT all the time and would definitely take the UA direct. Keep in mind SEA->NRT is doing 50-60% in the new config based on the latest stats in another thread. I'd try (although it's damn difficult) to align to the new config and you'll be all set.

Is Asiana lie flat? Even if so, I'd stick with UA. Their C food is crap, but I don't find Asiana to be anything special.

If this was an NH vs UA discussion, it'd be a different story altogether, but they'd both be direct! Incidentally, NH will be flying SEA->NRT in 2012! I bet UA puts the new config on that route a lot more after that begins...

I believe NH will use the 787 for the NRT-SEA route.

I would wait for the NH flight if you can.

Bet award space will be tough to find on the NH flight though.

Correct! So no F. So NH C vs UA (old or new) F... that's interesting. I'd take UA new F, then NH new C, then UA old F as the worst case scenario.

If OZ is using A330's as mentioned above, then it will have the slanted flat seat in C. Only some OZ 777's have the QS full flat seats.

If OP does take OZ, dress in layers as I find their cabins to be extremely warm.
