FWIW, I fly ex-west coast to NRT all the time and would definitely take the UA direct. Keep in mind SEA->NRT is doing 50-60% in the new config based on the latest stats in another thread. I'd try (although it's damn difficult) to align to the new config and you'll be all set.
Is Asiana lie flat? Even if so, I'd stick with UA. Their C food is crap, but I don't find Asiana to be anything special.
If this was an NH vs UA discussion, it'd be a different story altogether, but they'd both be direct! Incidentally, NH will be flying SEA->NRT in 2012! I bet UA puts the new config on that route a lot more after that begins...
I believe NH will use the 787 for the NRT-SEA route.
