It was on for my two TATL flights last week (ORD->LHR->ORD, 767 both ways) but the whine on channel 9 was so loud that I could not stand to listen for more than about 30 seconds...

I don't remember hearing the in-cabin chatter between the cockpit and the F/A stations before, but in this case it revealed why they'd made an announcement asking if there were any medical professionals on board: A passenger--later referred to as the "happy passenger"--had gotten a little too sloshed.
One other note: I tried seeing if having ATC as background noise would help get almost 17-month-old Mini DCA Writer to sleep, but I think she was too weirded out by the headphones.
