29 March 2010

Flight: UA12(DEN-BOS)
Aircraft: 757-200
Departure Time: 1917 (3h 44m duration)
Meal: Dinner (First Class)

Pre-Departure: The usual water or OJ offered in a plastic cup.
After-Departure:
  • Warm Nuts
  • Beverage of choice in a glass

Choice of:
  • Cheese Tortellini with Red Sauce
  • Grilled Chicken

Both meals served with:
  • Green Salad (two slices of tomato, one since of cucumber, and lettuce)
  • One tub of Lite Ranch dressing
  • Warm roll
  • Carrot Cake
  • Appetizer plate (slice of yellow cheese, slice of white cheese, walnuts, red grapes, and a fig)

The "Grilled Chicken" turned out to be the "Mandarin Chicken" that I had on this same route earlier in the month. It was a large chicken breast (boneless & skinless) grilled (sear marks) with a sweet red sauce. Served with Jasmine rice, sliced carrots, and broccoli. It was pretty delicious.

Hot towel prior to arrival.

I just had to say.. orange juice+pasta=ICK! (sorry pigx5)

I usually order the pasta myself especially if a salad is the alternative. It's getting tired, as is that sorry cake.

One person's appetizer is another person's dessert

My last meal in domestic first was the Luxe Box. But then again, I was flying out of Denver. The warm nuts were chewy, which made up my mind when debating between the pasta and the salad.

One of the FAs looked at me when the other one was handing me my box and said, "Good choice."

Warm nuts are always chewy-ish. That's why I much prefer mine cold and crunchy.

Hindu Meal in C

I usually order the Asian Vegetarian meal when I fly C- sometimes this is bland noodles and veggies. If I order a Hindu meal - does anyone know if it is vegetarian? This is what the website says - seems vegetarian to me, but I thought a Hindu meal was just one that avoided beef.

Any experience you can share?

ok
Please give me a suggestion that what should I drink with pasta exclude alcoholic beverage?
I will try next time.

UA hasn't change their meals for years......(or...minor changes)
As a frequent flyer, it's really painful.

Yes, I agree 100%!

It is getting worse! There is little imagination in UA's domestic menu

Soup
Grilled Cheese Turkey sandwich
Shrimp salad
Chicken salad
Steak salad
Pasta dish

These have been around since September 2009. Do a search on the 2009 Let's Eat Thread, and you will find the same dishes mentioend over and over except for the occasional sightings of chicken sandwiches.

I have almost lost interest in taking photos of the UA meals.

So does the international Japanese Meal.....
The same cake for years for domestic flight.
The same cake for at least one year between TPE-NRT.
The same teriyaki checken in economy class for at least 4 years.
I feel the same.....I don't want to take the same pictures again and again.
It's shame to share those photos to my friends because they always ask
me why I always have the same food. ---> because UA almost doesn't their
meal......

That mid-con out of DEN like that should have had a bowl of soup and perhaps an appetizer of hummus and pita. I noticed that the tray is one of the smaller ones that does not occupy the entire tray table and that the dessert is pre-packaged. I've also noticed ORD-DCA flights getting the "black boxes."

Does anyone know if United still has a catering contract at DCA? I'm starting to doubt it.

It must be UA's strategy to hope that pax will begin to request that meals be eliminated on all domestic flights.

Hey, I don't need a great meal, but on the plastic stuff -- come on United. It is 1st class afterall
another route for this.. had the same options on DEN-RNO on march 17. chatted with the FA about it, and she was definitely embarrassed. she handled it as well as i can imagine handling it, stopping at each seat and taking orders with "would you like a snack in a box this evening?" with that intro, the warm sandwich and brownie were better than the snack box i was expecting.. (the sandwich was actually pretty tasty, oddly..)

RNO-DEN was at an off time, so i didn't get to see the meal service on that one..

Just home from a DEN-MCO RT in F.

Outbound was a breakfast flight, choice of standard fruit plate or the omelette deal. Standard F cabin breakfast flight. Nothing remarkable, good or bad. I slept most of the flight. Adequate.

Return was choice of ham sandwich or terriyaki chicken salad. Both choices came with a minestrone/vegetable soup. I had the salad, looked like earlier pics in this thread. The chicken had grill marks and sesame seeds. Quite tasty. Mrs. Jslo also chose the salad and it earned her approval (not easily earned typically!).

All choices served on china/metal utensils etc.

Dessert was warm chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk.

All in all, one of my better F experiences in recent memory. The 2 FA's in the F cabin (757) were way on top of their game. Ever present and anticipating most if not all needs. Drinks were kept topped up with all haste.
