Need help with strange Ual.com problem

Ok this one is really weird. I'm hoping some of our more technically inclined FTers can help me with this one.
I have never had any problems with Ual.com in the past. For some reason, starting this sunday I have been unable to logon to any of my personal info. on the site (mileage summary, my itineraries, etc).
The home page loads no problem, but when I enter my MP# I get the standard message:

----------------------------------------
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer "

------------------------------------------

I have checked all the boxes this message tells me to and it still doesn't work. I am using Internet Explorer 5, I have been able to use Ual.com with it before, no problem. I am having no problems on any other sites. I called Ual website support, gave them my MP# and password and they were able to access my info. without a problem.
Why is my Ual.com cursed? Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Hey there:

I'm not sure this will help, but I've often found it does in cases where IE behaves strangely.

Delete your cache
Delete your history
Delete cookies (if you don't care, otherwise try the other steps first before doing this)
Close IE
Reboot your system (not reqd if W2K-WXP)

Try now...

If that doesn't work, you might also try changing your security settings to medium, but this is a longshot, imho.

I've had similar problems (but not with the UA site), and if nothing else would work (like the actions gabrielz describes) an update of Windows/IE usually worked for me ("Tools" --> "Windows Update").

Good Luck.

Thanks gabrielz, but that didn't work. Oh well. Thanks anyways.
I'll try the Windows Update next.
Anybody else with any ideas?

g_leyser, I don't think it's your software. I've been having problems these last few days as well. It appears to be a load balance problem on the ua2go and itn servers. The ual.com sites are quickly and easily accessible, but depending on the time of day the other two sites take forever (or sometimes never) to load. My computer is sending repeated requests, the server is contacted, but nothing comes back down the pike. During low traffic times (late at night PDT), response time is much better. This has happened on a few occasions before, and has corrected itself after a few days ... so hopefully ...

My experiences exactly for last couple of days, but only evenings PDT on home computer.I tried clearing cache last night, but unfortunately that created another problem and by the time that was remedied I had lost interest in UAL.com! I'll try again tonight...

I have been having the same symptoms for several weeks now..unable to log into the "secure" areas of itn that UAL uses. (I am also unable to log into the ITN.net website, but all of my other regular login sites are fine). UAL.com customer service was no help. I have found that if I edit the address bar, and remove the "s" from "https" I can access the "secure" areas just fine. It's very strange, only my home computer (using IE6) gives me the error message, my computer at work (IE5) has no problem. I think that maybe one of my Windows auto-updates caused this, since I didn't change anything myself, but I'm really stumped. If you figure it out please pass it along.

hi wannabe 1p, welcome to Flyertalk!
I see you're from Petaluma-land... Say, if you see Ross Shafer, formerly of Salsa Cycles (before he sold it), say hi to him from Greg, formerly at Burley. He'll know.

Finally got back onto home computer last night after SFO>TPA trip (another superb UAL experience!) and still could not get to any secure UAL.com pages. Emailed web support and decided to update IE from version 5 to 6; PROBLEM SOLVED! Later got prompt response from web support and suggested same do to some recent changes to site...
