Saw Rob Reiner walking through the United terminal in SFO yesterday...big guy! I nodded and he said hello, in a very appreciative and kind way. Classy dude. ^

That, my friends, is class, and I mean the good kind ^

Oh boy my first Celebrity Sighting!

I was seated in 1J on UAL 935 tonight from LAX to HNL and looked up to see Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings, "Charlie" on Lost) and Evangeline Lilly ("Kate" on Lost) walk past my seat. I tried not to turn around to see where they were sitting right away, but I didn't see them when I got up to go to the lav. As it turns out they were in economy! Oh darn those upgrades, I would have been back there with them if mine hadn't cleared.

The FAs said they were trying to remain as incognito as possible, keeping their heads down and no eye contact with anyone including the FAs.

When they deplaned they happened to pass me heading to the parking garage or "car park" as Dominic said, and they went down to the lower level. He was walking through the airport with a hooded sweatshirt on with the hood covering his head. It was so HUMID there, he must have been dying under there. Later in the garage I saw Evangeline 2 rows over walking alone, presumbly to her car.

John Kerry walking through SFO on Saturday... bag-carrying staff and UA escorts in tow. He just had gotten off the IAD flight, I think.

Well, I guess we now know two characters that will be around in the second half of the season!

Had Huey Lewis on my flight, CMH-DEN a few months ago. I was in 1C, he was in 1B. He had played a concert in Columbus the night before. The News were in the back

Funny enough - during boarding, he was standing behind me and just behind him a man and his younger daughter (10 maybe?). I heard the man say to his daughter "did you know that's Huey Lewis?" He did not mean for us to hear, I think, but we were standing in the jet bridge and it sort of echoed.

His daughter retorted, "who's that?" Huey just rolled his eyes. He also didn't take breakfast on the flight - was a 735 ex-shuttle, cannot imagine why.

I had several of the News on my connecting DEN-SFO flight - Huey lives in the Bay Area, and so does most of the band. He also has a house in Montana or Wyoming, and I learned through his conversation with a friendly flight attendant (they seemed to know each other) that he was connecting to UAX .

~20 years ago I was flying WS BUR-SFO on the day after the Grammies. I was seated close to the front of the cabin, near the door. After the door was closed for departure we sat for several minutes then the door was reopened and Huey, the News and manager were escorted onto the plane... the manager ( a loud, obnoxious Englishman ) was seated next to me and the band was seated toward the back. Their entrance created quite a buzz, as they had won an award(s?) the previous evening.
The best part was the arrival at SFO... there was a large contingent of fans waiting at the gate ( remember when you could go to the gate to meet someone as they deplaned?! ) chanting "Huey, Huey, Huey, Huey..." The chant spread through the terminal as the group made their way through, waving and shaking hands. Really cool!
I'm still a big fan. My wife and I chose "The Power of Love" to close our wedding reception.

Wile E. Coyote was spotted crossing runway 14L this morning at ORD. Caused a short takeoff delay, made for a couple of laughs on channel 9.

I wonder if Dominic (or other celebrities) are savvy with FF programs or possibly even read/visit FT. He must have accumulated a lot of miles with all the trips to New Zealand when working on LOTR. If they plan things properly, it should be easy for them to get and maintain elite status. At least one might assume that without knowing all the factors in how they book travel.

I doubt it. Not that they're better than any of us or are bussier, but I think they have different priorities. Free flights, mileage runs, upgrade certs, etc are usually not things most of the public really follows much less celeberties. They generally seem to be in a slightly different reality than the rest of us.

Maybe smaller (B or C list) celebs who aren't as sure of their future would care, but I doubt that too.

Major stars certainly don't book their own travel.. And whoever does book it for them will certainly either take care of booking a private jet or straight into F. Minor stars probably have some idea and I imagine some at least earn miles, but there travel is usually paid for too and are on such busy schedules that it really doesn't matter that much. Definitly too busy to *try* and make elite status.

My experiences with celebs:

LAX-SYD: Ron Jeremy with a very well endowed female companion. He sat the row behind me in Economy Plus.

SFO-SYD: Keith Urban. I talked with his manager who was really nice. They were on their way to Keith's concert in Sydney. He is CUTE!

LAX-DCA: Jessie Jackson. He posed for a lot of photos with passengers when we got off the plane.

BOS-YYZ: Dave Foley and his family sat next to me in Economy. Was very nice.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine flew to ORD in First Class with all the the Backstreet Boys. Brian Littrell had just recently gotten married and was showing of his wedding pictures. She said they were all really great guys.
