RE: TSA Pre not showing up on boarding pass.
Hi All,
I did a search, but didn't see anything related to the subject. Apologies if I missed it.
I fly weekly, but never on United. Have a flight tomorrow morning on United and when I downloaded boarding pass 24 hours in advance, I noticed that neither me or my wife had TSA Pre on our boarding pass. Called United, they have it in their system and the numbers/names all match on their end so it was out of their control. They gave me a TSA Pre customer service number and told me to contact them. TSA Pre said the names and numbers match on their end so they had no idea why it wasn't showing up. They were going to "escalate".
Seemed strange that it was not showing up for me and my wife.
As it's my first time flying United in a while, was wondering - is there any reason that TSA Pre will magically appear closer to departure time, or am I just out of luck?
Thanks in advance for the help.

TSA PreCheck is not guaranteed on every flight even if you have your KTN in the reservation. So it's likely that you just didn't get it this trip. But, you can remove your KTN and re-add it to the reservation and see if that helps. That forces UA to do another "check" with TSA. You may or may not get PreCheck at that point.. But I would suggest you be prepared for normal security screening this trip.
I'm assuming you were provided actual BPs and not "see agent at airport"? If the latter then you possibly got SSSS'd which means no PreCheck.

I had this happened to me once. It was due to my KTN was inadvertently deleted from my Mileage Plus profile.
Once I called United, and had them re-entered the KTN, the issue went away.

I've heard that you are not guaranteed pre-check, but since I've had TSA Pre for the past 10ish years, I can't recall ever not getting it - so I was hoping that was just a dirty rumor
. Guess this is my turn.Thanks for the heads up on removing and then adding. I'll give that a go.
Thanks for the help.

That is correct. Got an actual boarding pass, not "see agent at the airport".

Check that your TSA Pre did not expire or, if tied to your Global Entry, that the latter status did not expire. I had both things happen (one time no TSA Pre randomly, another time because my Global Entry expired).

if he OP never flies UA ... sounds like the KTN # was not attached (properly). Can often get fixed during check-in if that is the case

My wife and I had a similar issue last month (same record, international outbound) but unlike the OP we fly United a lot (lifetime Gold here). PreCheck did not show on either of our mobile boarding passes, but when asking the two reps at the United Club about it they couldn’t see the issue in our record, and when they printed paper boarding passes as an experiment,,,,voila! TSA Pre was on both. We all left the discussion equally puzzled. I’ve never seen this.

I went through a rather extended period of a somewhat similar situation at AA.
Without going into all the details of what was (or was not) happening, it usually healed itself if I reprinted at the airport. Not that it should have been necessary and it was frustrating, but the AA agents could not see anything wrong in my profile.

If departing from an airport with CLEAR, then that should get you through faster, even if TSA PRE does not show up on the boarding pass? Please correct me if I'm wrong on that point, but I assumed that CLEAR made TSA PRE superfluous at those airports with CLEAR?

Nope. TSA PreCheck is about security, not ID check. PreCheck allows you to keep most things in your bag (liquids, computers, etc.). Clear is supposed to simplify the ID check phase of airport security but it's really starting to fail at that as well. Besides, PreCheck must still be noted on your BP to get through Clear with TSA PreCheck. Otherwise you need to use the Clear standard security line.

i also agree that Clear has become more cumbersome than it used to be. ☹️

Interestingly enough, my TSA precheck also disappeared from my boarding pass yesterday when I took my a UA flight. The mysterious thing is I just took a UA flight a couple of weeks ago and a AA flight last week. Both were with TSA pre precheck. I checked my mileage account, somehow KTN disappeared from my membership account. So I reentered the number in the airport. But the boarding pass still not showing TSA precheck. I was running out of time so I took the regular security lane. After I landed, I noticed from UA app that my flight reservation for this flight had no KTN. So I re-entered KTN to my reservation. By the time I checked in for my returned flight, the online boarding pass did not show TSA precheck. So I tried one more thing. The difference between my UA light this week and the one a couple of weeks ago is the booking channel. I booked my flight directly via UA app a couple of weeks ago. For this week's flight, I booked through Concur of my company. When I setup my Concur profile this week I did not fill in my KTN. So I went to my Concur profile and update my KTN. Then I texted TSA (275872) to confirm my precheck status. They were very responsive. They told me that my account is active and the reason I did not get the precheck in the first place was because my reservation did not have KTN. Now that I have updated my KTN, I should be good to go with precheck. My boarding pass still not refreshed with precheck. But I went to kiosk in the airport to print a copy of my boarding pass, Wala, precheck showed up!
So if your precheck disappears, you should
1) text TSA to confirm your precheck status;
2) if you status is active, check your reservation, not just your mileage account, for the KTN;
3) think about information from other booking channel might overwrite your UA information (not sure why it did not happen to AA);
4) If you have done all the above, reprint a paper boarding pass

Same thing happened to me. I checked in for tomorrows flights. The boarding passes on the app didnt show my Pre Check. However I downloaded it to my Apple Wallet and the Precheck showed. I called the 1K desk to get ann explanation. They played around and couldnt figure out what happened. The Precheck on that was on my wallet no longer is visible. I was advised to go to the ticket counter and they would add it to my boarding pass.

While printing BP at the airport may get PreCheck to show. airline agents can not add PreCheck to a BP. It is either there or not. There are random times when a qualified traveler will not get PreCheck. The airlines have zero control on this and calling was to ask was never going to get a satisfactory answer,
