Nope. TSA PreCheck is about security, not ID check. PreCheck allows you to keep most things in your bag (liquids, computers, etc.). Clear is supposed to simplify the ID check phase of airport security but it's really starting to fail at that as well. Besides, PreCheck must still be noted on your BP to get through Clear with TSA PreCheck. Otherwise you need to use the Clear standard security line.

Yes, correct, and that’s exactly what we had to do. But Clear without PreCheck was still much more convenient than going to the United ticket counter for a paper ticket (especially without knowing “TSA Pre” would show up then). But since we were then at the United Club post security anyway, and we had plenty of time to kill, I raised the question there.
i also agree that Clear has become more cumbersome than it used to be. ☹️
