We taxied by 774UA and 76010 on the way out. Looks like EWR and LAX bound respectively.

I can't remember any big UA birds there! But of course as a hub, TW had 767s, L-1011s, and 747s aplenty!

Only logically they may have had DC10 service to ORD. But with TWA having a huge presence there the entire time UA had widebody domestic service and STLs size, I doubt it.

the registration for the 777 that went had maintenance problems is N76010.

Glad this forum exists! Had to google why there was a 777 in St. Louis this morning. It was in an unusual spot between C and E terminals. I havent posted enough to post the picture yet but have 2 of it

DTW had DC-10s right up until the end. I was on tons of UA 727s and D10s to ORD and DEN from DTW in the 1990s. Right out of the Smith terminal.

Now they barely have any mainline and its an outsourced station from $miseks rampage.

Remember that UA was never in STL in the 70s and did not start service in STL until roughly 1983, so there was no built-in need for high capacity in/out of STL particularly with TW hubbing there. TW did fly a widebody up to ORD (generally they routed a flight STL-ORD-LHR to make up the flight)

TWA in the good old days. I flew a TWA 747 from STL to Hawaii 32 years ago. Now there is actually one trans-Atlantic flight from STL to Frankfort three days per week. Lufthansa A330. Flew that one last year. Nice to have trans-Atlantic from STL again, but theyre giving us their old planes. The TV didnt work.
