2024 Let's Eat - Polaris Business

[Admin: please feel free to move to new 2024 thread]

The card:

Note: still pouring the Justin Justification on 1/1, which is a perfectly good red (if a bit fruit-forward for my tastes).

I had the beef. It was cooked to hell, but edible. (On a smaller cabin I ask if they can pull mine early so it’s just warmed, but I didn’t want to bother the harried crew.) The cauliflower cheese thing was great, although the sawdust on top was odd.

Adult 1 had the beef also. Adult 2 had the paneer. I don’t have the pic yet (will add) but he texted “God the paneer shares nothing with actual paneer. It’s like steak sauce + cuppa noodles + halloumi. Do they have chefs on staff at United?“. He can’t say I didn’t warn him.

Child meal was the meatballs, which failed to entice the 3yo. Not sure if there are pics. Ice cream for lunch again!

Not food, but traveling in Europe with a small child really shows the difference in corporate priorities. LH Senator Lounge staff gave him a captain’s hat, an Eisbär stuffie, colored pencils, an activity book, and a memory game! United’s kit is better than nothing, but wow, we were really blown away by LH. (Even AC gives all kids a neoprene satchel, kid-sized headphones, and puzzles - we still use these on UA.)

2024 Let's Eat - Polaris Business

This thread is for posting examples of present Polaris meals. It serves as a resource for those want to know what might be served during their future flights. Also Q&A about expectations.

As many have issues with UA's inflight service / meals, there is a separated thread created long ago for that discussion.
General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
It is a sticky making it easy to find.

This discussion thread is the place for commenting on UA's present and present in-flight service, individual dissatisfaction, potential reasons for the present state and how other carriers are preforming in comparison.

This thread is for the following all flights marketed as Polaris Business. In general, this includes
  • Most Trans-Atlantic flights
  • Trans-Pacific flights (except to/from Guam)
  • South American flights branded as Polaris
Don't forget to post the date and route information along with the meal information!

Here's United's official page on this category of Polaris dining:
https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/inflight/dining/business.html

For the curious folks, the 2023 thread is here:
2023 Let's Eat - Polaris Business

With that, Let's Eat 2024!

Here's a New Year Day flight.

IAH-FRA
UA46

Boeing 777-200ER
Meal: dinner, breakfast

Menu

Appetizer - burrata. I was not asked about my choice, so I have no idea what happened to the shrimp appetizer

Main - lemongrass chicken, it was ok, very typical UA food. Also not sure why they included a lemon in it

Dessert - cherry coffee cake

Breakfast - oatmeal. Only 3 pieces of apple in it. I wish UA would do something like B6 and have optional bacon served on the side or something

Flight was overbooked in economy with lots of active military personnel. Business went out 70% full. Slippers were provisioned at each seat.

Food quality is declining again. I was not impressed with the food. Kind of dreading my next UA flight. Service was good, given the light load in the aft-J cabin.

Traveling to South Africa from IAD later in the year United Business. Evening (6:35) departure. Wanted to get an idea what kind of meals to expect. Thanks!

New Year's Day FRA-ORD 12:50pm departure. Went with the roast chicken breast which hit the spot for me. The salad and appetizer were fresh and the bread roll was warmed. Overall pleased with the quantity, especially after having some breakfast in the LH lounge. I had the sundae but forgot to take a photo (nothing special there) and skipped the arrival meal.

What you see posted now will have no bearing on what you're offered later in the year (which I take to mean several months out at least). United does rotate their menus periodically but in general you can expect a beef, chicken, fish and pasta/vegetarian dish. You'll also have the option to pre-order a meal which may or may not be different from what's offered on board. I'd check back in this thread as you get much closer to departure to see what's being offered ex-IAD to at least Europe if nobody posts IAD-CPT/JNB.

But the general rule of thumb is to just eat in the Polaris lounge because the food offerings there are far fresher and definitely nicer than the slop served on board.

New Years Day
MUC->ORD

Main was surprisingly OK. One of the better meals on United for me lately.
"Ice Cream" sundae was crap. Really off texture and flavor. One bite and done for that one.

And the pre-arrival chicken sandwich was pretty poor. Soggy/slimy bacon and horrible fries.
(I was on Singapore and EVA in December, blown away by how good a burger/sandwich can be on a flight)

There was a request above for IAD to South Africa (6:35PM departure).

Also, for me, EWR - DXB menu for January?

Flew this route earlier today, had the short ribs & wasn't impressed. Meat was tough and chewy. Shrimp appetizer was tasty. Pictures to follow once FT allows me to post some.

Incidentally, they were still serving the Justification red vs the LVE Cab.

If Kirby had his way, and the trend of meal devaluation continued, expect something like this later in the year:

But I suspect it will be pretty much the same as it now for the remainder of the year, i.e. no changes.
So you should be able to judge from recent posts within this thread (or the later pics in the 2023 thread) what the UA meal offerings will likely look like.
