Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

However, during the COVID era, UA has gone to a more dynamic and shorter-term setting of schedule (as has the other carriers). Presently UA, while UA is still publishing a schedule for 330 days in advance it reflects pre-COVID operational levels and is considered just a placeholder schedule. Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

Change Fees Are Gone For Good
The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus® Premier® members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through United’s award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services® members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

We’re extending electronic certificatesTo give you more flexibility when you travel, electronic certificates are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued. This includes all currently valid electronic certificates and all new ones issued on or after April 1, 2020.

Hong Kong’s new mandatory quarantine requirement is for 3 months ending June 18, so that may affect the restart date.

Yes, I can see UA reducing service to every other day in through end of April, possibly expanding to end of May.
Singapore and Hong Kong and Taiwan have best managed to contain Covid-19 up to now, but new imported cases force draconian govt 14 day quarantines. For Singapore specifically, neighbor Malaysia with escalating runaway cases can especially overwhelm the city state.

It's now true. Non-residents will not be allowed into Australia after Friday 9pm, Australian time. Approximately 25h from this post.

Australia border closure: Flights cancellations?

I'm curious to see if United will soon stop flying to Australia soon, as Australia will close its border to non-residents in about 24h. The Thursday night (US time) flights will land after this deadline.

Traditionally, US-Australia routes have been very profitable, with high value cargo: fresh fruit / vegetables, etc.

Is this correct? IATA has a lengthy but more qualified description of the Stay-Home Orders.

If they have been in Hubei Province (China People's Rep.) within the last 14 days, they will be quarantined for 14 days upon entry into Singapore. For others, they will be issued a 14-day Stay-Home-Notice (SHN) upon entry into Singapore.
2. Passengers who have been in Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Lao People's Dem. 3. Nationals of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Dem. Rep., Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam will have to submit requisite information on their health to the Singapore Overseas Mission in the country they are resident before their intended date of travel. The submission will have to be approved by Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) before travel to Singapore, and the approval will be verified by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the immigration checkpoint for entry into Singapore.

There might still be Australian citizens returning home, there are no restrictions on them. And as you mentioned it might still be profitable due to cargo.
After the 30th March United might be the only ones flying that route.

A combination of getting AU/NZ folks home on the way over and USA folks home on the way back.

Some of the restrictions here in Europe exempt transit passengers, other countries might decide on that as well.

I'm Australian, based in NYC, and on the fence about flying back tonight or tomorrow night. (Lots of PZ availability too, of course). But I'm concerned about self-quarantining for 14 days and/or UA not being able to get me back to the US whenever.

FYI to all members needing to get between US / OZ / NZ - QF announced the following:
.
All Qantas and Jetstar international flights from Australia will be suspended from the end of March until at least the end of May 2020. Some additional services may be considered to assist with repatriation. More than 150 aircraft will be grounded during this time, including all of Qantas’ A380s, 747s and B787s.

Unsurprisingly, UA has cancelled 2 of 7 flights from Las Vegas to Houston Friday 3/20. They originally rebooked me on an afternoon flight, but I just switched to the 8:10am flight, where I'll be passenger #14 and the only one in E+. First is empty. CPU chances look good.

LAS tower is ATC-0. Someone got infected. The whole airport is being controlled from the Las Vegas TRACON downstairs. Lots of cancellations today, probably some tomorrow.

Yeah - WN and Allegiant were mostly affected yesterday, so maybe moving flights over to T3 and D concourse? I thought it was more of a ground movement problem.
