At less than an hour before flight time you did not get a CPU (automated upgrade). You were upgraded by the gate agent who likely needed the coach seats to be assigned to someone else so he/she processed gate upgrades slightly early. Glad you got the upgrade though.

DEN-LAS (this evening) cleared sometime between 48 and 36 hrs. First was booked 10/16 prior to clearing. Must be a very elite (lite) flight, as the upgrade list currently only has one name not yet upgraded, the other 4 I'm assuming are non revs as they also show up on the standby list.

DEN-RIC on Jul. 29. CPU cleared before online check in opened up. My very first upgrade, CPU or RPU on this route our of 3 trips/6 segments YTD.

DEN-SFO tomorrow was up-gauged from a 788 to a 789. 12 more seats up front, cleared CPU at T-23.5. Seems the aircraft swap wasn't populated through the system fully, as I noticed the U/G list indicated a 789 as far out as 48 hours, but no upgrades were given until this window.

The following flights were CPU'd at T-96:

UA320, GRR-ORD, 8/1/18, 6:19 PM Departure (737-8)
UA1462, ORD-SFO, 8/1/18, 8:08 PM Departure (737-9)
UA394, SFO-LAS, 8/2/18, 6:52 PM Departure (737-8), my companion traveling on the same PNR was also upgraded at T-96

SFOrunner Aug 6, 2018 2:54 pm

UA1800, LAS-SFO, 8/5/18, 3:20 PM Departure (737-9)

Cleared somewhere in between the boarding of groups 4 and 5. I was already in my E+ seat when the gate agent boarded and handed me a boarding pass for 1A.

Here are my stats for the year-to-date:

Total United Segments: 51
Total Segments Eligible for CPU: 45
Total Segments CPU'd: 22
Total Segments RPU'd: 5
Upgrade Frequency: 60%

Overall, not terrible, especially being based out of SFO.

Lax-ord-cvg, then cvg-den-lax, lax- ord no upgrade, ord-cvg cpu, yay

Cleared EWR-PWM (they actually have mainline on this route now) at T-96 hours. It looks like UA finally fixed the old pmCO nomenclature in the email notification - it now says ‘Premier Upgrade Notification’ (instead of Elite).

Yet another United devaluation.

I think this changed in Feb or Mar, actually!

It also now claims it doesn't know the seat assignment, even though it has made one.

What is—the email's subject line?

:

been doing this for a long time - probably back to the merger. I’d say it claims that 70% of the time (and to select at check in) - going into the seat map on the app also claims there’s not a seat and lets you select it, but when saving, it tells me you can’t change your seat and shows something else already selected.

From "elite" to "premier."

I think that's something else—the reservation getting out of sync (for who knows what reason) when processing the upgrade. However, the CPU emails did indeed do the 'assigned upon check-in' before the subject line was changed, but at least my anecdotal experience is that it's doing it more frequently. In the app or on the website, the seat assignment works fine and does show, it just didn't print in the email.
