I called the GS line yesterday to try to StW NRT-EWR in March. I was told StW is only for paid tickets and not award travel. I haven't looked at the app yet to see if there is anything different.

You can APPLY them now you still have to wait to clear if no immediate PN space is available and that is a new perk for GS pax using the app. From above it looks like 1K can do it as well. I have yet to try it as no award travel scheduled at this time. Last time I did it over the phone spent 15 on apply instruments to both flights on a RT ticket and eventually nothing cleared. Always frustrating....

I couldn't get it to work in the app, but I did get it to work on the mobile website. Upgraded 10 award flights in about 15 minutes. Saved me over an hour of having to call in on the GS line.

I booked YN using the United.com award travel search in November. I applied two GPUs in November via GS phone agent and it cleared yesterday, 2 days after the Dec 4 conversion.
The reservation now says "Fare Class United Polaris business (PN)" and "Upgrade Confirmed" with a green check box.

I had a domestic award ticket with RPU applied/cleared (before 12/4), but needed to cancel yesterday. I cancelled the reservation on-line, and the miles went back into my account right away. But 20 +P were NOT redeposited. I called GS and the agent was able to do it manually; she said it's best to call in to an agent these circumstances.

I didn't think that was the case but someone above (1K) stated it worked for him. I was 1K for years (soon to be again) and thought that "perk" was only for GS. I did it a few of time this year but I think it only cleared once so don't feel bad.

It's been buggy for years that when tickets got canceled but sometimes RPU/GPU never redeposited.
Seems still the case today!

Can a GS member upgrade someone else's award ticket? If so, are there any fare class restrictions (esp for international)?
