Slightly confused, not sure is United.com is confuse or if I am confused (either is possible).

Looking at a domestic trip where Economy (K) class is available for $206. Pluspoint Upgrades are available but the 'Upgrade to First - Buy Economy (Lowest)' column shows a price of $281? What's with the price difference?

Basic economy, which is not upgradable, vs. regular economy, which is upgradable?

I usually just buy the flight in econ, and then apply instrument after confirmation. Given the positive upgrade space, just a few mouse clicks, and you will be in first/business.

K on domestic is not BE; N is.

Anyone else finding that UA is still deducting 40 PPs when a flight that is waitlisted for both Premium Plus and Polaris only clears into Premium Plus but not Polaris? This happened to me twice this week (LHR-IAH-LHR) when 40 PPs were deducted upon clearing into Premium Plus while still waitlisted (and never clearing) for Polaris. And my PP upgrade history describes the deductions as for clearing from Economy to Polaris, when that never ended up happening on either flight.

sorry if this has been addressed somewhere in the 42 pages (620 posts) on this topic, but:
I have an upcoming CLE-ORD-OGG flight
- I applied PP for the ORD-OGG flight, but did not want to risk/waste 20 PP for a CLE-ORD only so I didnt apply for that - in case the ORD-OGG didnt clear
- so, I am "wait listed for CPU" on the CLE-ORD flight, but my ORD-OGG surprisingly just cleared (which I am shocked at - but that is another story)
- can I now go back and add the CLE-ORD PP request and, if that clears, will it still be only 20PP for the entire trip? ...

Yes this has been addressed in the thread AND in the wiki (the wiki answers many common questions)

Yes, you can limit the request to a specific segment.
But once a all or a portion or all the request has cleared, you can not change it to add another segment.

That is the standard process when any portion of the request clear, the max is deducted. After the flight your should be refunded if the full amount is not needed.

"You will still be able to waitlist for both cabins. However, if you only clear into Premium Plus you’ll ultimately only pay for the highest upgrade you receive which in this example would be Premium Plus (20 PlusPoints). Keep in mind we’ll deduct the full request price, equal to the highest price upgrade requested, whenever any upgrade clears and you’ll receive any difference in PlusPoints due back to you when landing at your destination."

Help me to understand: united upgrade on connected flights

I have an international travel, which has a domestic stop (SFO – IAH, IAH – LIM). I would like to book economy then apply upgrade with plus points, what confuses me is that:
1. United show me separate upgrade option on each segment: 20 for the first (domestic ) flight and 40 for the 2nd (international) flight;
2. However when I select both upgrades, the combined cost is still 40 points.

My question is: if I use plus points for both segments, will the cost be 40 points, or actually it will become 60 points?

Thank you!

It's 40 points total.

If only SFO-IAH clears (unlikely to clear at all IMO) then you will receive 20 PlusPoints back after the itinerary is flown.

If only IAH-LIM or both segments clear then the 40 points is all you will pay.

PlusPoints Upgrade Pricing - United

If you request multiple upgrades for your trip, you’ll only be charged for the highest-priced upgrade you receive. For example, if you request a 20-point upgrade for your first flight and a 40-point upgrade for the second, you’ll only be charged 40 PlusPoints.
You used the term "stop", if you mean "connection" the above is true

Got it, thanks a lot!

I have a flight in March SFO-FRA-MAD. Originally bought as W in November, shortly after, a plus points request cleared to R immediately. I have since messed with the return multiple times. and the reservation looks a little wonky on the upgrades tab:

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...621b4d6475.png

Flights are out of order, things don't line up. But I can read it and the 80 deducted waitlist line refers to ORD-MSP following the cleared upgrade of FRA-ORD.

Previously I tried to reprice FRA-ORD to W so I could reduce the plus points used, got a very confused person via text and gave up for the moment.

Now PZ = 2 for SFO-FRA. I called the 1K line and was told "You're number one on the waitlist" I said PZ>0 and asked if they could push it through. They said "We can't do anything to push it through, you just have to wait for the system."

I've thought about two options: 1) call back or text and ask them to cancel and re-apply the SFO-FRA upgrade request. 2) HUCA

Thoughts appreciated.

10 minutes later it cleared. So option 3 was breathe and wait. I'm not very good at that.

Is there anyone on FT who is good at waiting for system to do the trick?

One of the issues is we know someone else can (and probably will) snipe the open space.

Hi all,

I haven't waited for upgrades in ages and I WFBF. However, I "promised" a friend F/C and used PlusPoints for the first time since they became PlusPoints. They're all domestic segments and waitlisted although all flights are PN9. What is the chance of upgrades in general? If they clear what is the typical timeframe? First segment is on 03/19.

What is inventory for PZ? Unless you are GS, PN is not going to help.
