Removed PlusPoints from a flight. Hours later, I am still on the upgrade list. Ha!

High enough to have a chance of maybe clearing? Although I highly doubt it would after points have been removed.

Agreed,

but it's a catch-22 isn't it in some circumstances? We have to request all desired legs at the time of booking but run the risk that only the short domestic (less desirable) leg will clear and there go your (albeit reduced number of) PP (using the ORD-LAX-SYD example above).

Lurker :)

Yep a catch-22, and all so that they don't have to deal with the complexity of extending instruments after the fact.

The epitome of the problem is having something like IND-ORD-LAX. I am fine with using pluspoints on a flight >1000 miles even if it is CPU eligible. But it stings to have to pick between risk of burning them on the short flight or only succeeding the long one.

Is there a chance? There is always a chance (currently #3 with 3 seats remaining). Will it happen? Doubt it.

I am kinda indifferent, which is why I had removed the +P request.

I am also annoyed because this particular flight, like other flights, United had cleared UG list shortly before T-24, down to 3 available seat, fair enough...10 pax cleared. My last flight, nothing had happened at or prior to T-24; instead, 15-20 seats had gone to paid upgraders and other pax, while the UG list had largely stayed the same.

you'll be skipped as I've tested it multiple times :)

It's been glitching for a few months now

you'll be removed after T-24 sweep

Already inside of T-24. Still on the list, but keeps going the wrong direction :)

I don't expect getting the upgrade. Thanks for the data point.

I’m sure this is actually somewhere but struggling to find it - if you cancel (e.g., flight credit, refund, redeposit of miles) a flight with a confirmed PP upgrade, do you get the PP back? I know you don’t if you cancel a confirmed upgrade on a ticket you are keeping but not sure how it works if you cancel the ticket itself.

You can’t “cancel a confirmed upgrade on a ticket you are keeping.”

If you cancel the flight, you will get the PlusPoints returned, unless you used the Skip the Waitlist feature, which requires additional PlusPoints and isn’t usually available except for South America flights.

Any reason not to use PlusPoints?

Looking to upgrade an international flight. Is there any reason to use Miles plus Money, instead of PlusPoints, if I have the points? I can't think of any, but thought I'd ask!
Thanks!

There is one scenario: the upgrade chance is almost zero for overwater segment, but you want to get the short connection upgraded for free.

New for 2023, MUA (Miles+copay) earn PQPs if clears

Stupid question but want a double check just to make sure.

I've never used Plus Points for a revenue booking TATL with a partner airline leg on same itinerary.

I.e., if I find positive PZ space for UA ORD FRA, but have a second leg on partner airline LX FRA ZRH does the presence of that partner (non UA metal) leg on same itinerary impact my ability to use Plus Points to upgrade overwater UA metal leg (assuming of course, PZ space is still open at time of Plus Point application)?

I suspect not, but I have only ever used Plus Points on international itineraries that were all UA metal so I just wanted to be sure. :)

Thanks!

The LH segment won't cause any issue. When you apply the points, you will only be able to select the ORD FRA segment for request, and it will show not available on the FRA ZRH one.
