Hello,

I have over 750 plus points with majority of them expiring end of Jan. I tried calling MileagePlus on two separate occasions, was told that nothing can be done, was transferred to the manager who assured me that they sent a request on my behalf and I will receive a response in 24-48 hours. In both cases, I never heard back. I tried to use those points on multiple occasions with no avail - 75 segments and $37K in spend booked last year. Any tips on how to get through to MileagePlus and get an extension?

Thanks all!

Pre-COViD, UA extended 2GPUs (80 PPs) for 3 months. UA has not extended any PPs yet. See this thread for detail:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...-30-april.html

You can call MPSC at the regular 1K line and talk to agent.

Don't bother calling. I have been told (calling for another reason) and someone else on that thread indicated no decision has yet been made to extend any PP past 1/31 for GS or requalifying 1K.

Thank you, will go and read up on it. Appreciate the links.

In general, yes, you get re-accommodate in the upgraded cabin but realize, in the case of weather, it may be days, due to the number of folks to be re-accommodated, to get everyone handled.

Flight was actually canceled due to inspections currently being done to Max 9 aircrafts and not due to weather, but I'm assuming the same applies.

So I have a Y fare EWR-LAX that I know is not eligible for a CPU and I must apply PlusPoints (or miles) if I want to move to the front of the cabin (it is a not a three cabin flight but two cabin flight). My question is if I am a 1K does the upgrade for the Y fare using PlusPoints come from the PN or the PZ bucket. I know normally it would be the PZ bucket but since it is a Y fare I am wondering if this changes the bucket? I tried to look on the United website and could not find anything. Thank you.

1K's access to PN for Y/B/M fares (Instant Upgrades) is only for CPU eligible flights.

I have a confirmed UA W class ticket IAD-HND, HND-ORD-BWI. IAD-HND and HND-IAD are both confirmed upgrades into PZ space using plus points (no plus points were ever applied to ORD-BWI). If I call in and ask to change the last ORD-BWI leg to ORD-DCA, what would happen to the confirmed plus point upgrades? Would they stay, need to be re-cleared into PZ space, or something else?

A skillful agent will preserve the upgrade. I would never do it on App/Web myself.
Good luck.

Absent some form of IRROPS, you can’t just call and change endpoints like that. The fare has to be recalculated based upon current inventory from HND to DCA. BWI is not part of the WAS market for faring purposes, so you can’t reapply your existing fare.

Any voluntary change forfeits PlusPoints in that direction.

Good luck.

I don’t think most agents would preserve the upgrade here. I agree that they could.

I just cleared an Upgrade from Y(W) -> RN, on a requested Y->RN->PZ upgrade request. My account shows the full 40 PP deducted, and the Itinerary page shows still waitlisted for PZ. Is this normal, or did something get messed up and I should call in.

This is as normal as one gets. If Polaris upgrade is not cleared, UA will refund you the differences in PPs between PZ and RN.

Plus Points Question

Quick question. I upgraded a good friend of mine using some expiring plus points to SYD. LAX SYD cleared but the ORD LAX does not show waitlisted. If I add it, it wants more another 20 points. Although I am a 1k 2MM, I usually do not use PP. In the old GPU/SW days it would waitlist both segments.

Is that correct?

Both segments need to be selected at the time of the original request. To add on a segment after requires additional points.

I've learned this the hard way (twice; thanks, pandemic!). When requesting the PP upgrade, the system makes it look like you're requesting 20 PP per segment, but it will deduct no more than 20 PP in this instance.

Agreed,

but it's a catch-22 isn't it in some circumstances? We have to request all desired legs at the time of booking but run the risk that only the short domestic (less desirable) leg will clear and there go your (albeit reduced number of) PP (using the ORD-LAX-SYD example above).

Lurker :)
