MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates a shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 5:00am to 10:00pm. In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminal B to Terminals A and C from 10:00am to 10:00pm. The shuttle bus is available at gate A28, B67, and C70 as illustrated in the image above. This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

I am flying IST-EWR-FLL on Mon 17th Dec, I was booked on UA1682 EWR 8.59pm FLL 00.08am.
Yes it is a schedule change.
No I do not have global entry.

Are you an American Citizen/Permanent Resident, or a visitor?

Seems really tight. Even with Global Entry and no bag checked would have me a little concerned.

1hr 10 EWR Int-Dom connection

Believe MCT at Newark is 1:30 for international to domestic. Just looking at that, as my 3 hour connection there just got changed to 50 mins, which the agent said was illegal. That is now last flight to my destination.

Now looking at a 1:30 connection in SEA instead, which adds a segment for me, but with that, can get me in a bit earlier. The bigger thing is there are also later connections to fall back on if I don't make it.

Consider changing airports to Miami. There is UA1680 that leaves at 8:25pm which would give you 2 hours to clear.

While it may not be preferred for you it is an option & United should change You to those flights if you request due to the tight schedule change - eventhough they are still selling that connection to FLL.

Another option is to just risk the current connection & if you miss it go directly to the Miami gate & try to get on that flight. Just make sure to bring a appropriate carryon as you won't get your luggage until the next day.

Option 3 would be to get United to reroute you on UA9127 & UA8849 which are Lufthansa code shares directly into Miami via Frankfurt.

If you do nothing this would be a ideal trip for travel insurance to pick up the overnight hotel charge in EWR if that ends up happening.

No way will you make it

I have Global Entry and my husband does not. You are coming in at a reallybusy time of day and time of year. On a trip back from CDG I was out with GE in 5 minutes. It took my DH one hour. He is a US Citizen. The lines for Non US Citizens tend to move even slower.

Change the connection or change the airport.

Even insurance could have an issue with this one if it's below MCT...

That is an extremely tight & risky connection.

I recently flew IST-EWR-ORD-DLH, with a 2:03 connection in EWR, and made it to my domestic flight with about 20 minutes to spare.

There were 2 things that worked against me.
1. The IST-EWR flight was about 20 minutes late. This is, of course, common.
2. I needed to spend an extra 10 minutes short-checking a bag to ORD.

On the other hand, several other things were working in my favor:
-I was seated in row 6
-When I saw several other UA intn'l arrivals emptying pax I walked extremely fast to immigration. Within a few minutes after I got to immigration, the line for US citizens went from short to huge.
-My bag was one of the first to arrive on the carousel

The biggest holdup was that the security line to get to the domestic gates was extremely slow.

Based on my experience, I wouldn't try doing a 1:30 international-domestic connection in the early evening at EWR unless I had a very good backup plan.

I like option 3 as I have never flown on a Airbus 380. What are the chances that UA will change the routing to this ?

I flew STR-EWR-DCA on United last March. I don't remember how long it took me to clear customs, pick up my suitcase, clear security and get to the new gate, but I'm sure it was more than an hour and 10 minutes. Like a previous poster, I'd suggest that you ask UA to fly you to MIA instead. The flights that you currently have do show on the UA website, but under the circumstances I'm pretty sure UA would let you switch at no charge. (The website currently shows lower fares IST-MIA than IST-FLL, so you might wish to look into getting a lower price.)

Dec 17 is still a long way off, you'll likely see more schedule changes. Why not ignore this for now and pick up at 6-8 weeks prior to the flight? If you don't touch the reservation your options will be the same as they are now. If you change to MIA now you'll be stuck with that choice.

Reps are a lot more willing to change flights if you guide them to the option that you want. UA & LH operate technically for transatlantic flights as a single airline.

So your best option is to know all the changes you want to make before you call and see if the agent will do it for you. If not just thank them for their time and say you'll look at other options and possibly wait for any additional schedule changes before the trip. Then call back again to see if you get a more willing agent. If your changing the return make sure you have those flight numbers and codeshare #'s as well.

Also note that the A380 does not have economy plus and it is a tight 31" of pitch. I've done it twice in Coach and lived; so it isn't horrible.
