Every reason under the sun is quoted, including "gate availability" and "bag screening system" multiple times, and for some variety, "time to load luggage", "time to board", everything except "plague of locusts". And the next LH trip to my destination if I miss is 36 hours later. Rookie mistake -- I normally check the alternatives for missing prior to booking.
what was the end result?

Anyone know what's going on with UA836 (PVG-ORD)? Diverted to ANC due to "operational difficulties." Looks like it will be rerouted to ORD via SFO.

looks like it flew ANC-ORD direct. D FCF/OPTG PVG-ANC NON-STOP OVERFLY SFO

Very long stop in ANC, strange. Perhaps they needed to get a new crew to ANC.

UA8 CTU-SFO on 787-8 N28912 cancelled:

We're sorry to let you know that your flight (UA 8) on July 12th has been canceled because of schedule disruptions caused by prolonged maintenance on your plane's landing gear today. Check out your options on the United app or united.com under Saved Reservations. You can contact us at 400 883 4288 (China).
The aircraft is on its way back to SFO as UA2775. It will operate UA9 back to CTU tonight. Hope it stays healthy and can perform the return UA8 on time, as I have a reservation on that flight.

UA858 PVG-SFO cancellation July 14

After two hours trying to fix air conditioning, flight 858 cancelled.
Chaos ensued for baggage retrieval, re-entering China, re-booking options.
PVG staff ill-equipped to cope.

cannot agree more with your last statement! My experience with the midnight PVG-SFO departure was very bad, too. Took two hours back to landslide (cancelled immigration stamp) and another two hours to a far away hotel.

Saved by the Germans!
This is exactly why I booked my trip next month to ARN on LH out of MCO. Tired of the constant mess in EWR.

UA999 - August 8, 2019 (EWR to BOS)

Delayed initially due to too much fuel (Cap said the plane was supposed to fly to TLV.

Then got caught in a weather delay.

Finally left the gate after a few hours of delay.

About an hour into the flight, diverted to BOS due to mechanics

This flight was supposed to use the flight to/from FRA yesterday/today (UA960/961), but UA960 didn't leave EWR until wee hours this morning. I thought I got lucky with a different plane.

Let's see what happens now...

Have been on the plane for almost three hours now since landing at BOS.

Firefighters came on board.

Then an medical emergency.

Tech Ops are still working. Flight crews are communicating with Chicago.

FAs are serving dinner while parked at gate, at 1249am here in Boston.

I actually feel bad for FAs. They are doing all of these for free - door has been opened for this entire duration.

My connection was long busted. My back up flight is about to go by the wayside. UA phone lines have unbelievable long wait.

UA179 (EWR-HKG) is having a rough go of it.

Thurs 8/8/19 - cancelled for mechanical reasons
Fri 8/9/19 - left EWR 2.5 hours late and has a scheduled stop in SFO. I can't tell if it's fuel or crew related as the comments say this:

0179/09AUG
P EWR/OUT 549P L02.39 EST OFF 613PEXTREME WEATHER
P SFO/ETA 805P FLAG STOP-INTERM-ETD 825P PREVIOUS STOP EWR
F SFO/ETA 843P ETD 915P
F HKG/ETA 210A L07.00
D CRC/EWR/ POSS DLYS/CNCL DUE TO ATC OPERATIONS-STRONG WINDS
D FCF/FSTOP SFO ENRT EWR-HKG A/FLIGHT DECK CREW
DID U USE FLT SKED ORIGIN DTE

SKED EWR ORIG 310P GTD C126 SHIP 2132
HKG 710P TERM 1 GTA HOLD

I'm only looking at this flight since I'll be on it next week. I don't mind an ultra long flight time due to winds (I'm in J) but I wouldn't want a diversion to SFO with a 2am scheduled arrival in HKG.

Maybe China forbid it to fly?

this ship just departed BOS as UA2833 to BRU. I saw it at the gate while taxiing around 5pm today and had to see why a 78x was gracing terminal B with its presence.

I am not on the flight, but am glad the bird is finally on its way to BRU. I stayed up all night last night and most of the day today trying to untangle my complex itineraries while in Europe after the irrops, but ultimately decided I couldn't afford (more than just financials) to get there on a Saturday.

Also, hopefully the guy who was complaining last night to one of the FAs about the upgrade process is now sitting in my seat or another one in the J cabin.
