Now a ZAG service would be a long time coming, seasonal at least.

It's going to take a huge influx of new widebody aircraft to add all of the routes being speculated here. Maybe there will be a small number of them but my guess is we'll see more additions of the shorter haul variety.

edit: I doubt ORD gets much in the way of new service. UA operates something like 600 flights/day there now and it's hard to see how they could add to it. I can't remember seeing a UA gate that was empty for more than about 15 minutes at the place... not to mention how it seems T5 doesn't have enough gates, either.

UA is taking delivery of more 789s, and their 752 fleet is stretched to the max already. I would argue that longer routes should be more likely than shorter routes, unless they will upgauge some flights to free up 767s and 752s.

Good points. The flip side is some of these longer routes require multiple aircraft just to operate 1X/day. By contrast, an E175 can do multiple routes in a day by itself. Also, I'm sure UA is counting on MAX9s going back into service before these new routes go live.

I could see SFO-BKK/SGN. I especially think SGN because VN is looking to do flights into SEA to connect with Delta to rest of US.

United has a lot of metal coming in 2020, probably a dozen new widebodies by the summer, plus the 767/777 Polaris mods will be wrapping up.

I almost suggested ZAG in this thread too. That would be awesome, and it's not entirely impossible with Croatia heating up.

EWR-SVQ was rumored a few months ago and today would be the day to announce it, if it's happening. I'll go on the record with a few guesses:

Seasonal:
EWR-NCE 763
EWR-SVQ 752
EWR-BUD 763
DEN-ZRH 788
SFO-BRU 772
ORD-KEF 752
ORD-ATH 763

Year-Round:
ORD-TLV 772 (similar schedule to IAD with 3x to launch; late evening departure, after 2230, and early AM arrival, before 0600 can be accommodated at T1 and T5)
SFO-DUB 789 (checking another tech hub off the list)
DEN-LHR 789 ??? (can United get the slot, or does any existing city lose a winter frequency?)
EWR-BLR 789 ??? (is the India market ready for so much more capacity, with a summer start? Would be UA's longest EWR route, surpassing HKG)
EWR-TPE 789 (if EWR gets one year-round long haul, this would be my guess)

We'll know soon enough... I'm also interested to see what seasonal routes will return. I think EWR-PRG is a lock, and I'm hopeful EWR-NAP makes the cut as I didn't get a chance to try it this year.

I don't expect the following at all, but would be glad to see them:

SFO-BLR
SFO-SGN
SFO-MNL
SFO-NGO
ORD-ICN
EWR-CAI
DEN-CDG

EDIT TO ADD: I don't expect everything... but I hope to hit on a few

+1
EWR-BLR may significantly help the BOM, DEL problem that UA has been having due to PAK, Kashmir issues. Secondly, UA will be able to take a chunk of revenue from the ME carriers. Third, I've seen that a significant aging population would like to fly direct as they we were doing from BOM, DEL. BLR adds a great option from Southern India.

With enough money slots are available, however it is interesting that for next winter UA is only selling 5x daily EWR-LHR where last year it was 6x, so I think year round DEN-LHR is almost certain.

The #6 EWR-LHR was United's summer-only slot in 2017/2018, which became DEN-LHR. Right now EWR-LHR is 5x year-round...
