Wow...lots of people doing this run! I'm impressed...I am flying LAX-SIN in a couple weeks in J (got my GPUs cleared 9 months ago 
) but even then, I am not looking to spending all that time in a flying aluminum tube!

Following up on this. At T-24 there were still 16 unsold J seats, but inventory remained D8 Z0 P0. Now at T-21, cabin has filled to 46/48, with 5 shown as upgraded, and inventory is J2 C0. So UA filled 14 J seats (likely a combo of purchased and GPU upgrades) without ever visibly opening a fare class below D. Lesson: Don't count on SDC'ing a fare below a D on this route, regardless how many seats are unsold.

The Crowne Plaza at Changi has comfortable rooms with views of the runway, so you can watch planes take off as you drift off to sleep. It's also got a great pool. If UA gives you lemons, make lemonade, add strawberries, basil and vodka, and relax.

Its not like this is an option of 3 vs 12 or 13 - there is only 1 departure time a day as LAX/SFO both leave together.

Don't stay at the airport. Stay on Orchard Road at one of the many hotels. It's under $20 (Singapore Dollar) for a ride that will take about 30 minutes at around 7 in the morning. Walk around, buy a Singaporean style sweet coffee, eat a custard pie, go to Clarke Quay and have a chili crab and a liter of Tiger beer (or if you want to eat lighter, have the chicken rice with beer). If you are willing to spend some money, you can go to Raffles Hotel and drink Singapore Sling while munching on their tiny peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Lots of cool things to do in one day. Next morning around 6:30, you can take a taxi back to Changi Airport having done more than a mileage run.

If you want a pricey-but-excellent Singapore Sling, try the bar at the Mandarin Oriental or Pan Pacific nearby. Otherwise, most decent bars will sell them in S'pore, and honestly I've had better Slings at tiny holes-in-the-wall in Tiong Bahru, than at the Raffles. Sad, but true! At this point, they're just expensive.

I used to do quick-turn MRs to SIN back in the 'oughts (2003-2006) when I could upgrade a $700 r/t with SWUs. Now that the delights of Singapore are known to me, I could not bear to do a quick turn and miss all the awesomeness in town -- especially now that the layover has been reduced from 7 hours to 2-3 hours. That's barely enough time to get a walk, some Singapore chicken-rice, and a shower.

Now I would say leave the bags at Changi, spend the night out and about and take a $12 shower at the transit lounge pre flight. I would be at the Sands casino myself...

And I was watching, the flight did not go R9. In fact, despite checking numerous times, I saw no R. Nor PN, P, or Z.
And I have never seen anything like D8 Z0 P0 PN0 R9 which is what you're saying happened.

I didn't want to be the first name dropper. The CP is ok .If you stay over twenty-four to forty-eight hours try the Villages at Changi. They're inexpensive and mid-level, close, have a free shuttle (prearranged) and a small night market a couple of hundred M outside their entrance.

Slightly OT but anybody know if the CP typically allows early AM check-in when the UA flight arrives. Or is it possible to spend some time in the Singapore Business Class lounge on arrival before check-in and then proceed to the hotel well imbibed 
? Short of making the jet-lagged track plus bags into the city any other suggestions as I already booked a trip at the CP. Thanks in advance!
