Remember when nonstop UA routes to SIN were first announced? The general feeling on the board was that UA would fail to be able to make the flight work on a 789. And remember when SQ announced that it, too, was going to reinstate nonstops on 359s? The general feeling on the board was that UA was going to get creamed. Now all the complaints are about the lack of R space on UA's SIN flights.

How do you get this to work from a non hub ? I'm at BOS and there is NEVER any R space to China (or Europe). I checked dates from my next trip to HKG and EWR<->HKG has R space available. However if I do BOS<->HKG routing through the exact same flights, it goes back to wait list. Help ?

Unfortunately the inventory does not display in an intuitive way. You have to search individual segments to see each segment's inventory.

However, you can clear upgrades based on individual segments, so you can apply an upgrade to the whole itinerary, and EWR<>HKG will clear while BOS<>EWR will be waitlisted.

Have always found R space IAD-NRT-IAD sometimes far out, often closer in to flight time. ICN is relatively open but the shift to 789 does make it harder. TPE also fairly available. I find SIN and HKG super difficult.

Interesting stuff - It's for a personal trip in early spring; no final destination decided .... I very rarely wait-list; I have had great success booking into available R to NRT, but I wanted to visit somewhere else.....

PVG has often had R available for instant confirmation when I've checked, it's a pretty easy one but is one of the worst places in the world to do an international connection.
