737-x00 - seatmap showing fewer F seats (such as only 8) ???

UA on some routes displays a strange seatmap of only 8F seats but stating the aircraft to be used as one that has more F seats. Such as a 737-800 that actually has 16 F seats or a 737-900 which will have 20 F seats. There are similiar issues with the economy seatmap.

It has been surmised by this community that this is a placeholder seatmap (generic narrowbody) and the actual aircraft will be adjusted later based on sales and the correct seatmap will be eventually be displayed as the aircraft utilization is worked out.

The only UA mainline aircraft with 8 F seats is the A319.

It's a glitch final 737-900 configuration is 20/159 for a total of 179 seats.

This glitch will cost UA quite a bit of Money as there are only a max of 8 seats bookable in F cabin!

Thank you for any infos on that?

Otherwise, are A319s ETOPS certified, and could they even make that route?
I've just confirmed a booking which includes a 737-900 leg from IAD-MCO in August. The seat map is showing 20 in F, but only the front 8 are reservable. It suggests that, rather than being a glitch, it is an attempt to ensure that a revised cab layout with seats removed does not cause pax to be bumped.

737-900 with 8F/39Y+/120Y?

I've just been shopping around for flights, and came across a seat map I've never seen before for a 737-900, any idea what this is?

Rows 3 through 5 are still showing on the seat map after purchase but aren't selectable. I have a flight booked in August on a -900 which is showing a similar seat map.

It would appear that there are changes afoot to the FC seating configuration and UA are preventing folks from booking into rows that may be affected.

It looks like a mistake. That aircraft is supposed to have 20 seats in First.

How many seats show for sale in First?

I hope this is not a trend of reducing the number of First Class seats in larger cabins!!

Looks like a variant of

Has there been a thread on a change to the size of the F cabin?

Seems weird, like some kind of mistake. There are only 10 rows in front of the wing exits in OP's pic, and 13 in skycrab's seatmap.

My prediction is that the aircraft for this flight will become A319 after the schedule is firmed up. This happened to me for the afternoon PHL-SFO flight in May when I booked it a few weeks ago. Good luck.

Yup...a place-holder seat map which lets passengers book a seat which shouldn't disappear when the company does an equipment swap later. Everyone wins.

I have a strange one as well - UA434 on April 7th, it's a 739 with 45 E+ seats. The thing I find strange is that E has been reduced from 117 to 96 and there are already 90 seats taken.

Same for IAD-AUA this summer. In the past few years it was initially loaded with the A319 and then changed to the 737-900 3-4 months out.

UA first class seat reductions

I think this was alluded to in another post, but I have found, for future travel on UA that some of the (new?) 737-800 and -900 cabins have DRASTICALLY REDUCED FIRST CLASS SEATING. I was looking on the UA website for travel to BOS from IAH in June, and MANY of the 737-800's and -900's now have just EIGHT FC seats, just like the A-319's that I thought they were phasing out. That's 8 fewer on the -800 and 12 fewer on the -900. CPU's have been few and far between even for 1K's like me for a while, but now the RPU and GPU will be essentially unattainable, with FC cabins of EIGHT seats I guess UA really doesn't care about their higher tier Mileage Plus Members after all
I have been loyal to CO/UA for over 35 years, but I fear this is the new UA. If so, it will finally be difficult for me to maintain my loyalty.

If I remember correctly, there has been no major change to the number of First Class seats actually installed on the plane types.

It seems to be either an IT glitch in the seat display, or perhaps they are limiting the choices of seats to hedge against a possible change-of-guage.

I sure hope you are correct that it is an IT glitch!!!

if this IS a IT glitch on the reduced # of FC seats, I hope it is also an IT glitch on the increased # of Premium Economy seats (3 or 4 additional rows)
