UA Press Release dated October 14 2015.

Oct 25: PS menus get upgraded and look delicious
Nov 1: Domestic first flights between 1:30 and 3:59pm that are more than 3 hours get lunch
Nov 1: Hawaii and transcon redeyes get dinner service

Beginning Nov. 1, the airline will refresh lunch and dinner choices for United First and United Business customers on flights throughout the U.S. and Canada, and to Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America leisure markets.

United-operated flights that currently offer meal service will addnew dishes, like Spanish paella, mushroom risotto and seafood cioppino on shorter dinner flights.

Meal window expansion

The carrier will also expand meals to:

Lunch flights longer than three hours, departing between 1:30 and 3:59 p.m., which will offer options that include seasonal entree salads like a Napa salad with grilled salmon, goat cheese and fig and an arugula salad with Milanese-style chicken; and

Late-night flights between Hawaii and Houston, Chicago, New York/Newark and Washington, which will offer full dinner service with new entrees, such as hoisin short ribs with wasabi grits and stir-fried vegetables.

Late-night non-p.s. transcontinental flights and service between Hawaii and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver, as well as other late-departing flights of at least five hours and 20 minutes, will offer hearty sandwiches after takeoff, such as a pretzel burger with bleu cheese dressing, arugula and pickled onions, followed by warmed pastries before arrival.

United will continue to offer its p.s. made-to-order sundaes for dessert, followed by bake-on-board cookies prior to arrival.

Here are some highlights of menu changes on flights within the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and leisure markets in Mexico; which will be reflected beginning November 2 on our united.com North America premium-cabin dining page and Choice Menu page:

p.s. Premium Service enhancements beginning October 25:

Premium-cabin dining changes beginning November 1:
-New seasonal entrée salads with refreshed protein component served on the side
-New side salads and transcon/Hawaii starter salads
-The United Business cabin on three-cabin aircraft will offer all entrée choices served in the United First cabin
-United Express two-cabin regional jet service will also offer new premium-cabin lunch, dinner and snacks, and expanded lunch meal service to flights longer than three hours
Choice Menu Bistro on Board changes beginning November 1

I took ORD-PHX and was given 2 options:
                  1. A egg "quesadilla" which was small and pretty nasty - soggy eggs in a tortilla - with a tasty "Mexican" sausage, and "salsa" (hot tomatoes with zero flavor) and a small plate of fruit.
                  2. Oatmeal - a VERY small bowl of oatmeal (which was looked like concrete), a large plate of fruit (similar to what is served on international breakfasts) and their generic "greek" yogurt.
Both were served with an optional large biscuit served on a plate. I was sad to see the cinnamon roll missing.

So proof - change doesn't equal improvement - typical United.

The cinnamon roll was my favorite part of UA breakfast meals, by far. I'm very sad to see them gone.

FWIW I'm kind of annoyed the 9:08 PM IAH-SFO I'm now stuck on is just "Refreshments". At least a sandwich would be nice.

Was chatty with two FAs today flying SJD-EWR and mentioned that I was happy that there is something to look forward to with the dining for regular UA fliers. They both agreed that people have been pleasantly surprised and they themselves enjoy seeing what new stuff will be catered on the flights.

Plus, based on my chatting with FAs who I'm actually friends with, they seem to have something they're somewhat proud to present to customers. A lot of them felt ridiculously embarrassed to offer the slop they used to. Especially when you had a celeb or something on board.

It's just sad in this day an age that United takes away aspects of the dining experience and then two years later brings it back touting it as new and with so much fanfare (i.e. cookie before arrival on a p.s. flight...)

While small in the grand scheme of things, I was always impressed that they had went with a small, woman-owned business as their supplier. I'm all for small/local biz but I've never once been really impressed with the cookies on UA. Last week on IAH-SJD I had a chocolate chip that I would have had 3-4 if I was allowed.
SJD-EWR most certainly did NOT use either of these suppliers, it was horrible.

Not true for transcons (which LAX-EWR definitely qualify as). Straight from UA's website:

Trans-continental and Hawaii flights departing before 9 p.m. offer a full meal service, which includes multi-course meals with three entree choices on flights that provide breakfast, lunch or dinner; a selection of premium packaged snacks and fresh fruit as a mid-flight snack on longer-haul Hawaii flights; and a pre-arrival refreshment or snack on all flights.
Emphasis mine. I'd say probably some kind of miscater.

To be fair, Poppies was the cookie supplier for the past 4-5 years, since PMUA days and that remained during the merger. I think that's an ample time to source something that's not exclusive to any one supplier. I think they've done a great job of getting awareness for Poppies, and it was a good run, but maybe Otis Spunkmeyer was able to handle the volume better. There could be several reasons.
