Can't do a seat selection for Oct 2015?
Just booked a trip SFO-SYD departing Sept 20 and returning Oct 1st 2015.
( R was available).
Trying to do the seat selection for the Oct 1st flight and it will not stick. Get a message that I should make a choice at the airport on check-in! Ha ha ha.
Even the 1K Desk can't do it. They say something about it being "too early", but I've always been able to select a seat before, if I can book a ticket.

Same here. Just wait a while and try again.
There will likely be at least one aircraft swap in the next year, so there's an excellent chance you'll lose a seat selected this early anyway.
