Hehe. You're funny! Clearly you don't know UA under SMI/J's reign of tyranny.

What I've observed, especially in Elite heavy areas on Elite heavy flights (e.g., Exit Row), is most people turn it off right away.

More likely DTV sold this right. UA does not own or lease the DTV system.

I seriously doubt that UA can't dictate what the default channel is on their planes. They sell ads they can definitely sell the default channel.

It is commonly reported the DTV receives all the revenues (and in exchange provides the system at no cost to UA). Suspect UA has the right also to place their ads, but if true DTV receives all the revenue, then the default channel would seem to be a DTV action.

TV is everywhere

It's as if the airlines have beaten us down to the point that "as long as the plane doesn't crash into a firey ball of flame", then it was a good flight.
Every place I go there is a TV on and it is often loud. Very very few people complain. I do ask that it be turned off I nobody else is there (e.g. Doctor's office). But the default attitude is that TV should be on.

Civilization has not yet collapsed because of this, much to my surprise.

Newsmax as default channel on DTV

Not an acceptable default. Some of the shows are crazy. What's wrong with boring old CNN.

Wake me up when CNN is off airport networks and then maybe I'll sympathize

It wasn't default today - maybe deal ended this month.

Ironically the network bills itself as being less to the right than Fox News.

Meanwhile MSNBC was blaring in the SFO club.

I have flown 6 domestic segments with DTV in the last two weeks, and the only default channels that I saw were CNBC and the movie marketing channel, trying to get you to buy a movie.

I don't buy that this is systemic.

I've seen it on every flight I've been on. It's newsmax in first, ESPN in coach

I was surprised newsmax was the default channel. I was in F, so I don't know what it was in coach.

My first thought was that UA found another way to make a chunk of money. They must charge a fortune for the privilege of being default.

IMHO, the station guide should be default.
