I don't know about thin, maybe shift. A few 1K's will become plat (like me) because they don't meet the spend, and so on all the way down to people complaining they used to be silver.

I hear ya and agree 100%

Im at;
EQMs 72,423
Segs 30
PQD $2889
4 of 4
1.2M LT
953k RDMs

Did the $25k Spend on the CC back in Jan & Feb, with still not knowing the goodies they probably have on Hold for us next yr, along with seeing many 1Ks end up not clearing CPUs,GPUs & RPUs with a system that I cant rely on to get me to my destination with any certainty, I decided if I didnt see anything that implied they cared about 1Ks and their taking care of them Plat was the max I was gonna hit, and Plat it will be!

Yea riding up front is nice but I can duke it out in E+ just fine, and if I can do it on all my TPACs then I can do it domestically as well, and if I should get lucky and get some CPUs Im ahead. Alot better then paying this gang crazy $$$$s and end up riding in U+ anyway

At least for now as a 1MM bags will be free and entrance to clubs while flying Intl and free E+, as well as Group2 from '16 should take care of my basic needs, and I will chose whatever carrier gives me the best fare. Doesnt hurt Im a LT Plat with AA either that offers the same benefits and being a SPG Plat gets me some beenies with DL

I'm pretty sure that if some 1K's 'shift' down to Plat, that would constitute a thinning of the ranks....

Yeah, pretty much seems like a thinning to me...

So excited to be some of the fat that gets lopped off.

I could do two mileage runs in F and make the goal. That was mentioned I believe, but I am not sure I want to plan even one extra trip. I am so booked up and all in first, using upgrades, going into November. I don't want to fly in December because I make a big deal out of Christmas and New Year's, but maybe that is what I will have to do. Luckily when I am not traveling I work from home.

I also have learned just how much tax is in a ticket. Case in point: $1000 ticket SAN-LHR earns only $735 in PQD because of all the taxes.

LHR is a bit of an outlier.

I assume you realize you are exactly the kind of customer United is trying to eliminate as a 1K.

I think that it will thin the 1k ranks some. This is pretty much weeding out lots of the leisure 1Ks to the extent that they exist. The business travelers (i.e. someone else is buying their tickets) are drastically less effected I suspect. The ones that I know meet and exceed this spend easily out of Houston.

I'm out. I knew it the day they announced it. This year they've made it pretty easy for me to not care too much any more. The upgrades are nearly non-existant. I can't get a CR1 or SWU to clear. They give less. I give less. Flying with UA down 50% this year. Come March 1st next year, I'm out entirely. I'm glad I won't be 1K next year.

People about a goal of "eliminating 1Ks" but my belief is the PQD requirement, and particularly the 016 stock requirement, is at least equally driven by a desire on UA's part to incent additional ticket purchases and to pull in $$ that were going to *A partners.

Yep, PQD requirements don't even begin to impact me. And I'm LAX based so it's not even fortress pricing. Just almost all last minute business trips.
PQM: 49,926
PQS: 39
PQD: over $10k

Im at 124k and $9,600 PQD. I will easily re-qualify for 1k, in a couple weeks I will be at 150K and $13k. If i were in your shoes i wouldnt even consider spending an additional $5k for a couple upgrade certs. IME, R space is drying up and when it does clear its at the last minute. Sure there are a few sporadic flights here and there that have R space open but it not worth it IMO to play the upgrade lottery anymore.

I booked EWR-SFO-OGG, witha e return HNL-EWR 9 weeks ago. SFO-OGG cleared immediately for my wife and I, EWR-SFO has zero % chance of clearing. EWR-HNL had 28 open F seats when we booked and applied GPUs. We are 4 weeks out from the EWR-HNL leg and there are currently 16 open F seats and we still havent cleared. My guess is they will continue to sell the seats out from under us and I will end up buying the F seat as soon as it goes to F<9

Prediction:

October 2014 new FT thread: "Routes where I can spend the most money flying the shortest time / distance out of xxx?"

I need $10,000 PQD's by 12/31, and I am $842 short. Help!

Crazy world we live in.
