I do app consulting plus publish my own, developing for Android sucks, period. The Android version of our app was supposed to be out last month, and guess what, not a chance. Not surprised UA is behind. In an oversimplification, Android was made by computer scientists for computer scientists - without a lot of regard for usability or standardization. The They use "guidelines" and "flexibility" as euphemism for a wild west environment with sloppy usability dressed up in a fancy design.
With my rant over, can we get some reliable wifi here UA?

If I was a developer, I would run screaming from a generic Android app gig.
iOS won.

UA Shows Apple Preference With New In-Flight Streaming Service
United Airlines (NYSE:UAL) announced that this spring, its passengers will be able to stream a wide selection of movies and TV episodes on their Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices during flights.
According to a report from Patently Apple, United will start the program in April, at which time passengers with either laptops or iOS devices that have the latest iOS 7 update will be able to stream content through the United app. Before boarding, customers must download the United app and fully charge their devices to access the content. Some laptops will require the download of a browser plug-in. Once those steps are complete, the service will offer 150 movies and more than 200 television episodes for free, without having to pay the fee to access the craft’s Wi-Fi.
“Most planes will be equipped with the new system very soon, and we’ll have it installed on most domestic aircraft by the end of 2014. We’ll begin on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and select 777-200 aircraft, followed by additional fleets. In the end, all United-operated flights will have some form of entertainment,” United said in a statement to Patently Apple.

I think this is a bad interpretation. The streaming service will support both Mac and Windows laptops just fine. This could also even be interpreted as a preference for non-iOS mobile devices because of the need to install an app on iOS. You may not need to install an app for Android - it may run within a browser on Android devices without one.

Already being discussed here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...al-device.html
Non-Apple devices will work via a web browser for at least some content.

And what do you mean by "no timetable"? These aircraft are all scheduled to get upgraded with IFE as soon as possible given the maintenance capacity for these upgrades. The only thing is that a deadline has not been communicated to us. In fact, a deadline doesn't make sense because UA is still receiving new deliveries and so the "deadline" would stretch out for years.
What UA needs to do is to set a standard for how long aircraft flies without IFE. Then again, we shouldn't care about this either. The KPI that we really care about is what percentage of the fleet is flying without IFE and whether that number is going down quickly enough.

It must be the sUA 739s you're talking about because my understanding is that the sCO 739s are getting LiveTV, not streaming content.
