PEK Lounge Availability at Arrival

Hi everyone,

I am flying ORD-PEK next month and will be meeting the rest of my party at PEK, but they will arrive five hours after me. I have to make a choice between waiting for them at the airport or at the hotel, and I think it may make sense to wait at the airport (they're not frequent travelers) if there is a lounge I can access at arrival. I am 1K *G and have a United Club membership if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any info! (I searched the forum and the most recent info on PEK lounges was from 2008.)

Sorry, last time I was in PEK was 2 years ago.. but I'm pretty sure all lounges are airside. You'll have to clear immigration and they won't let you back through security without another BP.

Is there any reason you can't head to the hotel then head back to meet them? I believe the train pass is 25 RMB to Dongzhaimen.

They'd prefer not to go on their own to the hotel. Somehow they think that having been to Shanghai once made me proficient in Mandarin or something :-)

Thanks for the info - seems I'll be going to the hotel directly.

I fly BF into PEK quite frequently. There is a CA arrival lounge at the baggage claim in terminal 3c (after clearing immigration etc) but apparently CA says it is for CA customers only and will not let United BF or GF or *G use it.

That is correct. Arrival lounge access is airline-specific and not a *A benefit. CA Arrival Lounge is for F, C, CA Plat and CA Gold flying on certain CA routes only.

Go to the hotel and hire them a car for pickup.

(I did this on my last arrival- usually just grab a taxi - and for ~$100 it's pretty good. Someone meets you at gate and escorts you all the way to the garage for the waiting car. Possibly worth it if they're not comfortable with language, new city, on minimal sleep).

SFO to BKK via PEK. 1:35 connection

Is a 1:35 connection in PEK on a SFO to BKK via PEK itinerary doable? There seems to be fair availability.

The hangup can be transit security. A few months ago there was just one "checkpoint" for all passengers transiting. Each passenger had to go through X-ray AND be patted down. No elite or premium line. It took over 45 minutes.

Well that's one hangup and is usually pretty time consuming.

Another hangup is UA888 SFO->PEK has a horrible on-time record. Something around a 40 minute average delay over the last two months.

Guys, he's connecting to BKK - PEK-BKK is, while not being a racetrack like PEK-PVG, still rather often flown (worst case with another connection) - all on one ticket, I don't really see a problem. Sure, if he absolutely has to be in BKK on that time, then he better not book it.. but would ANYBODY here book a 1hr45min connection via any airport in the world if he really had to catch that second flight?

Pek lounge?

What lounge does United use in Beijing? There's no United Club in their website doesn't list any partner lounge.

Air China has lounges for Star Alliance partners. Their business lounge is decent, I suppose. (I've been in worse.)

Check the Star Alliance lounge finder on the Star Alliance website. If you are flying J, you will get access to Air China lounges or any other contract lounges that UA might have contracts with. If you are Star Alliance Gold, you would get access to other Star Gold lounges in Peking as well.
