As of 3 March 2019, UA elites are being matched to the new Marriott Bonvoy Gold level including those UA elites who had gone Marriott Plat status during the Marriott / Starwood merger process. Marriott Bonvoy Gold does not include lounge access and late checkout is 2 PM

Q: If I registered and was granted complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus and have re–qualified for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following year, will I need to also re–register my request for complimentary Gold Elite status for the following year?

A: No. Members who have already registered for and received complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus in a calendar year and who qualify for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following calendar year will have their previous registration with RewardsPlus automatically renewed and will receive complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status for the following calendar year.

-------------------------------

For the United elites who are new to Marriott Rewards, here are the benefits you receive as Gold. Please familiarize yourself with what you are and are not entitled to as a Marriott Gold.

Also, please be nice to the Marriott 'newbies' who come to this forum to figure out what UA Silver gets (or doesn't get) them.

And here is a thread with some details for the newly-minted UA Silvers:

Anyone in my shoes still showing Gold, or anyone now showing the new Platinum?
I show new platinum. But if you read the MR forums, it’s still a mess of changing statuses, different for Spg vs MR, etc.

My situation is also confusing because I had MR gold from UA, as well as lifetime SPG gold, and Amex platinum. No idea what’s taking the lead on my status. Presumably MR gold from UA since that should produce the highest status, but the Amex go-forward status is still unclear.

Yeah, I checked the website too, and Gold. And my Marriott app is updated, as in the blue icon now. And yesterday it said a weird status name, wish I could recall, but something like "Gold Transfer" or something. I think my wording is off, but that's the jist. I am sure others on other threads have mentioned it.

Oh well, I'll just stay patient. I have a stay not until mid Sept 18 so if it doesn't appear Platinum by then, I'll call in.

I too have enjoyed the UA -> Marriott status match (I've been 1K -> Marriott gold the past couple years). It's kept all my spend at Marriott.

I'm sad to be losing
- 50% point bonus (down to 25%)
- checkout (4pm guaranteed -> 2pm *based on availability)
- breakfast/ amenity (now just points)
- upgrades (including the occasional junior suite or suite -> better suite)

At least we get to keep the free enhanced internet, I suppose.

I'll hold out hope for a 1K or GS match to platinum, but it looks doubtful (this would definitely encourage me to work harder for 1K this year; it'll be hard enough to hit plat).

So... any suggestions for alternatives? Any other decent credit card or program matching methods?

Several AMEX cards, including Platinum and Premier Rewards Gold, will get you Hilton Gold, which gets you breakfast.

AMEX Aspire gets you Hilton Diamond.

According to the points guy, looks like the Marriott plat-elite status we (UA golds+) now have through 1/2019 could be matched (with challenge) to Hilton Diamond through 3/2020.

Maybe come the end of 2019/ early 2020 it could be used to match back to Marriott's platinum...

This is actually unchanged. The old gold was 25% as well.

SPG gold was 50% bonus. Somewhat complicated to compare, though.

Forgot about that. But OP was definitely talking about Marriott perks.

50% of a lot less.

Increased earn is the only program upgrade from the SPG perspective.

Agreed, there were basically no other benefits.

However, if you were to consider the SPG 50% bonus and convert via the 3:1 ratio Marriott used 8/18, SPG gold offered a 150% bonus in MR points.

Pre-merger, a Marriott Gold earned a full 38.88% percent more than an SPG Gold on a fully adjusted basis:

Pre-merger SPG Gold: 2 points per dollar, plus 50% bonus = 3 SPG x 3 = 9 Marriott points
Pre-marger MR Gold: 10 points per dollar plus 25% bonus = 12.5 Marriott points

Right. 3:1 x 50% = 150% is not how math works. 3:1 x 50% = 50%, because you're scaling both the underlying number and the bonus.

So as a 1K, with a stay at a Marriott hotel in January 2019, will I get access to the Executive Lounge? I am trying to determine whether to stay at the Marriott or the Hilton at LHR. If I get access to the Executive lounge it will be the Renaissance as I love the view of the runway. TIA
