UA used to have a lot more service from PHL than it does now (even after the merger). In 2002 or 2003, UA had hourly flights to ORD, at least 3-4x/day to LAX (more than US did), and 3-4x/day to SFO.

I would expect an extra flight or two to ORD once US exits *A. I'd love to see the LAX route come back, but I suspect that won't happen as long as VX is in business.

It looks like LAX is not coming back this summer. I would think once the US codeshare ends it may have a chance, but with the international focus on SFO, and added frequencies on that, we may be out of luck.

I wouldn't call PHL "a relatively minor spoke for UA". With multiple flights to EWR/IAD/CLE/ORD/IAH/DEN/SFO each day, plus UA operating the gate for frequent AC flights to YYZ, there is a lot going on there. Plus, the LH flight to FRA.

I think (hope) the club will survive and I expect direct service to LAX to return once the US/UA codeshare agreement ends.

The club was open this Thursday but it was an oven. Clearly the ventilation problems haven't been solved yet. They had several portable chillers in the club but it was still at least ten degrees F warmer than the general terminal.

Yes they still have fans connected to ducts. On a positive note the bathrooms are slated to open this weekend.

Sorry for going OT, but I wonder what will happen to the lounge arrangement for LH pax once US leaves *A. The LH flight currently departs from A-West & it has always use the US Club in that terminal. I can't imagine LH would want to send its pax all the over to D where the UC is, especially those in premium cabin. Would LH just contract with US for its continued use of the US Club (or soon to be AC)?

I agree. From 1/2012 to 9/2012, UA averaged nearly 2000 seats a day originating in PHL on mainline UA metal (not including UX). See this chart:

Doubtful. I suspect * carriers will move closer to D.

I think the bigger question is where? There are no Customs/Immigration facilities in D and there's no way US is going to cede any part of B or C. So that leaves A East and E. I know A East is set up for C/I but not sure about E, so options are limited as far as getting closer to the UC.

I supposed some of the domestic-only carriers currently in A-East can swap with UA/AC while LH can just shift over there from A-West. The logical next question would be where the UC will relocate to? The current BA lounge perhaps, which can in turn go over to A-West? It will be interesting to see how things unfold (in a new thread?).

I can see BA closing its lounge (which it shares with AA) and moving passengers up to the premium US lounge in A wing, then LH using the BA lounge.

It would be humorous to see a LH HON member on a RT FRA-PHL-FRA using the FRA FCT on the outbound and then heading over to the UC in PHL on the way home. A pretty good example of extremes.
