Official size as per Rule 23.B.2, Baggage, Contract of Carriage:
https://www.united.com/web/format/pd...f_Carriage.pdf

Carry-on Baggage must not exceed the Maximum Outside Linear Dimensions of 9 inches (22 cm) x 14 inches (35 cm) x 22 inches (56 cm), which includes its wheels and handles.

Personal items must not exceed 9 inches (22 cm) x 10 inches (25 cm) x 17 inches (43 cm), which includes any wheels and handles.

A personal item that exceeds these maximum linear dimensions but is not greater than 9 inches (22 cm) x 14 inches (35 cm) x 22 inches (56 cm) will be considered as Carry-on Baggage. Carry-on Baggage or personal items suspected of being oversized may require being placed into a sizing unit to determine acceptability. Carry-on Baggage that exceeds the Maximum Linear Dimensions allowed or that exceeds the Carry-on Free Baggage Allowance will be considered as Checked Baggage and is subject to Checked Baggage service charges.
Under the 2013 contract of carriage, which is still valid for various tickets outstanding, the cabin baggage rule states a maximum of 45 linear inches combined for the LHW dimensions with no given side exceeding 22 inches. For such tickets, the cabin bag sizers are not lawfully applicable if the LHW combined linear inches don't exceed 45 linear inches and no side of the bag exceeds 22 inches. In other words for tickets issued last year, some bags allowed under the contract of carriage don't fit in the sizer without sticking out on at least one side.

I didn't think they made desktop replacement laptops like that any longer.

I would hate to have to travel with one.

Wow.

I travel with a Microsoft Surface Pro. Can't imagine schlepping a monster like that around.

This is a dead horse already. Many 15- and 17-laptops barely fit or don't fit upright in the sizer even without a case. A quick Google search will confirm that.

I'm extremely skeptical of the allegedly-compliant 17-inch PowerBook.

It's a pain to haul but I'm a programmer and my eyes aren't that young anymore--having the big screen is more important than the weight of hauling it. It was originally also purchased because it supports multiple hard drives but these days that's not that big an issue anymore. I don't travel often enough to justify replacing it just to get something lighter, though.

Onboard, the bag fits in the new bin A319/A320s wheels out, but only fits in sideways without the old bin doors -- so check your plane on the fleet site before you fly.
This is what drives me nuts- bags that fit the sizer but don't fit the bins. I have a 22021, which Tumi lists at 22 inches, but I think Tumi actually counts the top handle, which there is a cut for in the box.

I consider the 22021 the 'longest' bag I want to carry since it fits in EVERY bin I put it in-sometimes just fitting, but an inch or two more and it won't fit in some the bins.

My 22021 was getting a bit long in the tooth, so Mrs Tin got me a 22020 as a gift. My God is it small- but it fits the box and even the published dimensions.

Still have seen no change in the boarding process....

Flying out of PHL last week, there was a GA standing next to the sizer, which was placed just before the jet bridge after scanning your BP. He eyed up my 22" Crew8, but said nothing. I heard another passenger in F mentioning how they made him check his bag.

Lol they've eyed my 22" Crew 8 as well, but done nothing. I know it fits, so go ahead, make my day...

Did you try your crew 8 22 in the sizer, since March 1?.... thanks in advance.

I have...three times. It fit every time (fits most easily with the wheels on the right as you face the sizer). I don't stuff it so full that it bulges excessively...a bit maybe, but not a ridiculous amount.

Wow. We found the other one they sold!!!

The personal sizer must be oversized since my Tumi () with my MBPR 15 fits in it fine. No, its not a spinner...

It's also already listed in the Wiki, as fitting, at the top of every page in this thread.

Just to be clear, the new sizer was rolled out months ago. The recent change is in enforcement, not the design of the sizer.

Thanks again, I'm just concerned with the 22" dimension. Do you recall if you had to set it on slight angle? or the wheels and the back side were flat against the back of the sizer? Seems to me like the bag is longest from the two legs to top. And from the two wheels to the top is little shorter. (I know, its to prevent/minimize chance of tipping)

I understand, prior to to March 1 very few people, if any, tried the sizer. I know I never did. I do remember seeing them but I'm not sure if the were UA's other carriers.

No monkey business...just eased it into the sizer, perhaps tapping it a bit as it slid down. If you coat the bag with bear grease it practically falls in, by the way.
