The weather is fine. No precipitation or wind, just the usual dreary gray overcast sky.

Yes, I had forgotten how much more serious that one was! I thought it was just a drive off and a stuck wheel or thereabouts. I had the DEN part right I suppose.

Few years ago UA had a runoff happen to a 744 in Australia IIRC (though clearly my R is a bit hazy)

Aborted takeoff. Nothing to do with taxiing.

Airplanes are much easier to second-guess than they are to fly.

There have been several times when braking action was not as advertised on runways, taxiways, and ramp areas. There are restrictions for taxiing, takeoffs and landings based on reported or measured braking action but the reports can be and often are unreliable.

I remember taxiing on the inner ramp area at DIA and being able to set the parking brake while moving. It was so slick that the brakes had no effect on the aircraft movement.

I've landed on runways that had legal braking action reports, but the actual braking action was closer to zero. Combine that with a crosswind that's reported within limits (but maybe it is stronger) and it can get pretty sporty.

99.9% of the time, our passengers have no idea. I'd rather it was 100%, but stuff happens sometimes.

Pretty slimy runways and taxiways in DEN when I landed this morning. Low vis, too. Category Three approach in 400' visibility.
