2 777's clip wings at IAD

Just what UA doesn't need now that the 'game-changer' are out of commission too. Another possible shortage of WB's ala CO.

Aren't they supposed to have "wing walkers" to avoid this very situation? Somebody(ies) weren't paying attention!

Those gates at Dulles are horrid. Still cannot believe that they would park two 777s side by side.

I don't know... I think that UA should just fly out of there domestically only. Other than the locals who might get inconvenienced, EWR is a much more modern airport and allows for shorter connection times as well (and will get even better when UA abandons terminal A)

I wonder how long those 2 birds will be out of commission. And I agree, there's nothing wrong with the OP's statement.

My friend's flight UA 924 to LHR has been cancelled. UA didn't provide any explanation. Interestingly, the aircraft supposedly flying 924 is currently on its way to BRU as 950. I guess they "turned around" the plane and fulfilled that route?

IAD could never survive on domestic travel alone. Many of the domestic routes today are only viable because they feed the international routes. Take one away and the other disappears quickly. Besides, with all of the international competition at IAD, no one in their right mind would want to connect in EWR (wx delays anytime it's not sunny). Remember it's the short RJ routes that get cancelled first when things backed up. Not the way to start or end a long trip.

When they are short a bird, the TATL segment with the lowest load factor of the night is likely to get whacked. Plus, there are fewer onward connections from LHR and plenty of birds back to the US the next day to make up for the lost seats on the return. So, either 918 or 924 gets cut in this instance.

With DC being a very international city - federal gov't, embassies, and etc- UAs international traffic seems warranted. If UA wasnt flying to CDG or MUC, I would never fly to EWR to transfer.

No kidding. Did you see the photos? It wasn't even close, the wings are overlapping like 10 feet.

again... the locals might suffer through a connection. Like the locals in CLE are suffering, for example. That airport if you are not a local is horrid. Period.

(And I'd rather connect through CLE overseas that IAD any day.)

I have to assume that someone was at the wrong gate or someone painted some new lines in the wrong place. Incidents like this don't just "happen," they result from costly negligence by someone.

Good point regarding connecting thru IAD. I agree it is horrid. The train, and trams are vile, horrible conveyances.

Yeah that would be brilliant... abandon international flights from the airport with the 9th most international passengers in the U.S.

N773UA was the frame coming from BRU; it's o/s (hence 924's cancellation). Nothing I can see on the aircraft that was struck -- everything else operating as planned...............

This was the PMCO practice right? I mean stated practice?
