This is correct. Which leads to the logical conclusion that eventually United will get around to reducing Chase's benefits of being a customer of United. The easiest way for them to do that is the devaluation of MP miles. With Tilton involved with both companies its probably been held at bay to some extent. But he isn't a saint and he isn't going to be involved forever.
Chase knows this and has already taken steps to wisely de-emphasize the United (or any single redemption option) partnership.
